lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Per MLN Trade Rumors: Guardians ace Shane Bieber will soon be undergoing a Tommy John surgery after experiencing elbow pain in each of his last two starts, the team announced. Bieber will miss the rest of the 2024 season and roughly half of the 2025 season, as per the usual recovery timeline for TJ procedures. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/04/shane-bieber-to-undergo-tommy-john-surgery.html

Joe A. Preusser Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Sucks for Bieber, sucks for Cleveland, sucks for us. I don't want to have to potentially outbid the Guardians for one of Miami's SPs. Jocko87 1
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Might make a good FA signing on a two-year deal next off season.

Definitely sucks for Bieber, but seems like it doesn't suck for the Twins. Obviously this hurts Cleveland this year, but he was also on the short list to get traded for a huge haul. Now they won't get a dime for him as he'll be a free agent before he's ready to pitch again. cmoss84 1
Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 What a shame! He's a great pitcher & he was having a pretty good season.

Pretty funny but seriously before this problem, I thought he could have been a decent rental target, how well he had pitched in the past & this early season. We dodged a bullet, but the risk is getting higher trading for a SP with arm problems

Yeah, as much as I like to see Cleveland short handed, this is getting to be a problem leaguewide. For the same reason the NFL tries to protect QBs, it's not good for the game if MLBs best pitchers can no longer stay healthy. Mike Sixel 1
