Good for Kirk, but that wouldn't have interested me. To get to a consistent level of being a contender, this team needs to invest that money to invest in too many other areas.

I'm sure Atlanta will be much improved, but probably no better off than the Vikings were at their best with him. I'm seriously not trying to rip Cousins as much as the organization, but they won one playoff game in his six years. What is there it rue? Let’s just hope (insert player name here) is at least as good as Kirk was. So a top 10 guy. Easy peasy
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Vikes sign edge Andrew Van Ginkel, 2/20m. I like this one, actually. Solid player in the Flores scheme. wabene 1

If he's not, you just try again until you get it right. This is what I want: This frustrating organization hasn't had back-to-back 10 win seasons since 2009, which was the last time they were a legit contender, and they haven't been a consistent contender since Fran Tarkenton was here. wabene 1

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Author Posted March 11, 2024 Wow, didn't expect the Vikings to be this active today. Cashman looks like a younger Hicks replacement. Works for me. Three front seven defensive players. I was hoping for interior OL, but the defense is making strides already. gunnarthor 1
Parfigliano Verified Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Im glad Kirk is gone. It should have been done before last year for some draft chips. Take the pain and move on.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Author Posted March 11, 2024 I'm now curious about this new defense. Van Ginkel was mostly an interior LB last year as was Cashman. Is Pace out along with Hicks? Otherwise, if he's going to play edge, it seem similar to Greenard. Should be interesting.

I would assume that the generic starting group would be Van Ginkel/Cashman/Pace/Greenard but different schemes (and injury realities) might see different things. I think the important thing is that Van Ginkel seems able to play a few different spots and gives Flores pieces to fit and tinker with. But I could be completely wrong. That said, I like this first day. Could use some more help on interior d-line and corner but considering what the team did with the low-talent level last year, this looks like an improving defense. Also, and maybe more importantly, it looks like the Vikings at least have a plan for the defense and are implementing it with players that fit. nicksaviking and wabene 2

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 56 minutes ago, Mike Sixel said: placeholder. What do people expect now that Kirk is gone? Apparently they expect a rookie QB to come in and replace the production of a top ten QB in a year or two. Because the only place Darnold could hold is the page in the playbook. His numbers are bad bad. Have a season or two of guys throwing hospital passes to JJ and he’ll be gone before you could dance the griddy. So essentially you’re really drafting a guy would play very soon. Vikings are in a brutal spot right now. Not high enough in the draft to get the more talented quarterbacks, won’t get higher without trading up (counterintuitive if in a “rebuild”), and the lack of a viable competent “placeholder” Strap in folks it’s going to get ugly.
