I realize it's a game thread, but do the math.

 

At my younger brothers high school graduation reception my godparents, who were the elementary principal and high school English teacher, were discussing the relative class sizes year to year. My brother had 42 classmates after several years of 20-30 students. (Rural North Dakota)

They chatted for a bit how odd it was then kinda ended with a shrug, "interesting, I wonder why that is."

Old Norwegian bachelor farmer in the corner looks up from his coffee and says the only thing he probably said all day, "Winter of 83" and went back to his coffee.

The look on their faces as they pondered, then realized what he had said was absolutely priceless. I will never forget it.

I've since come to also understand how my and 12 other classmates October birthdays came to be.

I see what Francona is doing with bringing Fry in to play 1b. It's the old swap positions trick, where he can slide Clase over to 1b when he wants to go to Fry as a pitcher, leaving Clase in the game.

A recurring theme this season has been 1-2 players in a line-up supplying all the damage that's needed to beat the Twins. Today it was Gimenez and Brennan. If you're going to lose to the Guardians, can't let Brennan beat you.
