That's my fear. If the knee "cleanup" didn't work, I would expect there is some chronic damage. The fans haven't been informed of the exact nature of the injury (it is not required that we do) and we are all speculating.

My hope, based on nothing really, is that surgeons tend to be conservative, and the so-called "cleanup" involved some judgment and given the results another procedure which will be a little more aggressive is planned for as soon as the season is over.  If so, it's still just a hope that it works.  Something is terribly wrong at present.

Alex Kirilloff, the Oppo Taco Papa!

Eddie Julien, the Poutine Power Bopper!

Trevor Plouffe tried Bailey "Nightmare" Ober.... Hmmmm... Swing and a miss?

I might try, "bet the Ober Under," as in, he keeps the opposition down.

The exact problem hasn't been revealed this season, but in both 2021 and 2022 it was patellar tendinitis.

I think Julien is a near-ideal leadoff guy. He always has had a high OBP and he has above average speed--he stole 34 bases in '21 and 19 in '23. The move was designed to get Correa going and seems to have worked.

Julien is a good base runner, but he doesn't have above average speed. Those stolen base numbers didn't come from him being super fast, they came from him being a good base runner. He's in the 51st percentile for sprint speed this year. Almost exactly average.

Yes, Statcast has him tied with Kepler, Kirilloff and Nick Gordon. Still, he should be able to get double-digit steals in a full season, especially since he's already a pretty good base runner.

and yet they hit 4 homers ans struck out 12 times. Not complaining just pointing that out. They did score 5 runs without the homers and that would have been enough to win.

6 of their 14 hits where for extra bases, not really sure they changed that much of an approach and shows if you have guys hitting well the approach works and people love it, it is just when they aren't it looks horrible.

I mean if Correa, Julien, AK and Kepler would have been hitting like this all year, we wouldn't be complaining about the approach we would be talking about a World Series parade because they be 10 plus games up in the division.

Again not complaining, great win and fingers crossed they have 2 or 3 players every night hitting like this, because it will be a much more fun summer than what we have seen so far this year.

It shows me that going with the pitch instead of waiting and hoping for a mistake they can pull is a better plan. If you keep hitting the outside pitches for singles and doubles, sooner or later pitchers will come in for a pitch they can pull. Of course it also helps that guys like Julian and AK can hit the other way for real power.

I did some checking on patellar tendonitis, also known as jumpers knee and the news is sobering. This from Wikipedia:

"Treatment often involves resting the knee and physical therapy.[2] Evidence for treatments, including rest, however is poor.[3][4] Recovery can take months and persist over years.[5][6][7][2] It is relatively common with about 14% of athletes currently affected; however research reflects that more than half of athletes with this injury end their careers as a result.[8][7][1] Males are more commonly affected than females.[2"

It starts as micro tears in the tendon and can progress all the way to a torn tendon. You are supposed to stop the activity that causes the pain which makes me surprised they would let him play through it last year. If this is the problem it seems it could be as bad long term as chronic cartilage damage. By this time next year we could still be limited to speculation with this situation.
