You can't make every player a platoon player. Gallo has an OPS in the mid .600 the last two months. So why would you continue giving at bats if you can get the same results from someone who has more of a potential future with the team. We need more regular starters, you are not going win with platooning 6 positions, that implies those players are all equal in ability. And that is not the case. Kirilloff has played in more games than anyone but Correa since his recall in May. He hasn't been a starter vs. some left handed pitching, but it isn't like he's been fully platooned. Donny Barrels has gotten more at-bats of late, but that is a performance issue. Honestly, Farmer, Solano and Castro have deserved at-bats at the expense of Kepler, Kirilloff and Gallo and really all three have played sporadically against left handed pitching. whosafraidofluigirussolo Verified Member Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 It was a homecoming of sorts for Joe Ryan. The Southern California native took the mound... Ryan is from Northern California so it may have been more of a homecoming than you describe here - he's from Marin County just outside of San Francisco. Melissa, Matt Braun, IndianaTwin and 1 other 4

Correct, and Michael A Taylor didn't catch the last out, it was (my man) Willi. Matt Braun, Melissa, USAFChief and 1 other 4
stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 On the double in the seventh inning, that usually isn't a ball the first baseman is asked to catch. Kepler did have a long run, but was coming in, Solano may have been pulled over towards second and we know that Barrels is not the fleetest of foot. All three looked like they were feeling someone else close to them, so the ball fell with AK the closest. Karbo 1

He's batting .367 from the leadoff spot since "The Meeting." PS: For those frustrated with Correa's year to date, you should hear my friend the White Sox fan talking about Tim Anderson: Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of his last homer, though he's only played 85 games in that stretch because of injury. You should hear my Astros buddy talk about Jose Abrue. Also, the California Tankers has a nice ring to it. IndianaTwin 1

Trov Verified Member Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I want to know why generally AK sits against lefties. He has shown some ability to hit against them, and over his short career he has hit better against them than Kepler has, but the team tends to play Kepler of AK against lefties. I would also discount much of AK early numbers being wrist was issue for much of it. I do not know AK's minor numbers against lefties, but he looks like he can sure hit well enough to play against them.
Whitey333 Verified Member Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Oakland and kansas.city may be major league teams in that they are registered each year to play major league baseball. But that doesn't mean they have major league quality players. Both teams resemble AAA teams. I'm very glad we swept them. We should have swept them. I just have a little hollow feeling regarding the sweep. There's so many things wrong v with this team. They didn't play well this series and in my opinion would have been swept by even an average team. Plus we had to burn Duran all three games against the lowly A's. He won't be available probably until Wednesday or Thursday when we actually play a major league team. I hope now we pull away from the rest of the pack. But this is the third straight season of bland, boring baseball Twins style. RpR 1
