Lol I hate these kinds of comments. A message board is for all opinions. Yes the game was won but it almost wasn’t (mostly because the offense went dead after the first inning), but lopez has been super shaky since coming over. Fair game for the uneasiness

But it was won so enjoy.

I don't really disagree with any of this, but I also don't disagree with bringing in Lopez to finish the game.  I think that's what he was brought in to do, so I find it odd that that is questioned to such a degree.  Especially when he got the job done.

He’s just not been really great since coming here. Tonight was his 7th appearance since being traded. 5 save opportunities, 2 blown saves and a tightroper tonight. 8 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. Especially interesting when duran goes out and just dominates as usual.

Spot on!

To be fair, Lopez could just be going through a little blip at the time since his numbers were excellent (outside of playing the twins). Maybe it’s the target field mound!

Duran faced the top hitters (and highest paid) on the Rangers, plus Lowe had good at-bats through the game. That he got through the inning with an economy of pitches makes him a realistic option tomorrow.

I agree that Lopez has been shaky. It is unfortunate that he has struggled and hopefully he comes out of it soon. The Twins definitely need more than Duran at the end of games.

They traded for a closer.  Why would they not use him accordingly?

Because he is scary, and blown 2 saves already, and you have a better option? Maybe? Just maybe?

Or go with the company pitch. Whatever.

Dang 39 posts in 10 years! Even I can do that California math!

We all approach following TD differently. There are lots of us that read regularly without chiming in. Or in my case, go long gaps without posting and then do a bunch.

And that’s okay — that’s one of the gifts of a site like this. Just because someone hasn’t posted hundreds or even thousands of posts doesn’t mean he or she hasn’t lived and breathed with this site (and the team).

That's actually something that frustrates me about Rocco - he takes a very non-analytical approach to closers, like last year opting to give Colome as many chances as possible to prove he sucked and then even in September keep using him there, only using Alcala once. Now he's fixated on using only Lopez here when he should go with the hot hand. I can guarantee you if Rogers were still here, Rocco would still be using him in the 9th even though he's pitching really poorly.

I actually thought it was okay, even good, to use Colome at that point. We talk about it being audition time when you’re down a bazillion games, but that goes for veterans as well. Colome was horrible at the beginning of the year, as we all know, but had brought his ERA down by more than a run and eventually by 1.7 runs. In his last 26.2 innings, he had a 3.38 ERA and only gave up two homers.

Most importantly, he had an option that would have been relatively inexpensive. I think it was wise to run him out there as a closer to see if he had turned things around enough to pick up the option. Apparently they decided not to.

I don’t remember how Alcala was doing, but it doesn’t seem like they ever saw him as a closer. Using Colome in the ninth allowed them to further audition Alcala as a set-up guy.

But that’s my take, and I’m not in the front office.

To be fair, by internet standards, TD is incredibly tame

It sure is….. I post on many different message boards for many different teams and leagues and this is the only one I have ever had my knuckles rapped for silly things.?‍♂️

That might be. But name calling is name calling, and it is completely unnecessary.

Here is our posting policy: https://twinsdaily.com/help/all-help/community-rules-and-guidelines-r1/

Please read it. Primary is respect for others ... each other, the players, manager, FO. We have never once said you can't be critical of play, but if you can't be critical without name calling and making posts that are overly personal toward others, then yes, you will have your 'knuckles rapped.'
