One doesn't have to be a Baldelli supporter to see the primary failing here is from the front office. While people say "don't bring in Pagan!" you just illustrated why it didn't really matter. Duffey has been terrible, too. Cotton ended up taking the L yesterday because he was also bad. Thielbar isn't reliable against righties.

So are we really hanging our hats on bashing Baldelli for not bringing in Tyler-****ing-Thornburg? Is that the argument we're trying to make here? Get out of here, that's nonsense.

Yeah, Baldelli makes some real head-scratching moves, things I wouldn't do in-game. But if we're squabbling about Tyler-****ing-Thornburg's usage, we're completely off the rails here.

So, about Tyler Thornburg…

I would love to find out if Rocco really is an issue with 4-5 good options to choose from in the bullpen. Currently he has 1.5 good options. Jax is trending the right way but far from proven.

It's such a pain when you can';t count on a bullpen arm in a one run game, but especially if you don't trust a 2-3 run lead. That's a lot to get to just a tie. But to lose it.

I almost felt Jax was going to get his third loss against the Guardians at one point this week. Not because of his own pitching, but because of what people left for him to clean up that was nigh impossible.

His name is definitely Tyler Thornburg.

That's about all I can say.

I will say that it's very clear to me today!

It's clear that it would have made no difference.  And if it did, Rocco probably played it correctly, sadly.

Or Thornburg...either day!  :)

We seem to be at an impasse!

You are correct. However. you also have to include Moran (I understand he is lefthanded) because he was also fresher than Pagan was at the time of Pagan's about to be 4th implosion.

Turning to Pagan in that situation says we trust Pagan over Moran and Thornburg. Pagan just spit up 3 games in stunning fashion and he goes back to him despite two arms being fresher speaks volumes about the state of the bottom of pen.

In light of Pagan's rather spectacular implosions against the Indians. I'm going with Moran or Thornburg because they have not been burdened by such rather spectacular recent implosions and if they fail... well it's a obviously a bullpen issue.

Letting Pagan absorb the damage again and again keeps the fans focus on Pagan as a singular problem when the issue is really plural because no matter how incredibly bad Pagan has been, Moran and Thornburg are considered worse options by the collective staff or Baldelli directly.

So Yeah... You are correct. The front office has not provided their manager with options that Rocco can work with to operate the team the way the team is set up to operate.

I think it's fair to question Rocco going back to Pagan for the 4th implosion but the larger issue is not just Pagan... it must also include the 2 guys who watched it happened from the bullpen.

We need bullpen help immediately.

I thought Moran had pitched over an inning the night before, which is why I left him off the list. But I could easily be wrong about this, as the nightmare situation has just blended into one big mess.

You are correct. I just re-checked. Moran threw 34 pitches on Tuesday.

Substitute Duffey for Moran. Duffey threw 12 pitches on Tuesday and Pagan threw 10 bad pitches on Tuesday.
