J.D. Davis

MLB Trade Rumors lists our Twins as one of the teams interested in the Mets'  J.D. Davis.  My simple question is: why?  He's a corner bat with less than stellar defensive skills at any particular position.  If there's one thing our Twins always seem to have plenty of, it's that.

He can sure hit, but it does seem important to catch the ball. LF was a real problem last year and it makes sense to have Kirilloff at 1B, not in LF. There must be someone who can play in LF.

It seems in-character for the Twins to make a bunch of uninspiring signings in the positions they actually need and then make a big splash on some random position that doesn't really need upgrading. I hope the explanation is simply that Falvine is very thoroughly plumbing the depths of the market, kicking every possible tire.

You can never have too much of a good thing...

The answer to why is they seem to like bat first corner guys with little defense.  Why not add to the group?  That would be why there may be interest.  That being said, I assume your question was more to why add to the group.  That I have no answer to really.

The team doesn't quite have enough of those types to field an entire starting lineup of them yet, so this would make perfect sense.

The more the merrier, I always say.

We could use an immediate DH. If the cost in trade isn’t very high, Davis could be a useful addition for us.

Now that the NL has the DH, I'd wonder why the Mets would let him go cheaply.

The Mets have Robinson Cano returning this year -- and they still owe him $20.25 mil this year and next.

I don't know that the Mets would let Davis go cheaply, but they signed Escobar, Marte, and Canha before the lockout, pushing Davis toward irrelevance on their depth chart.

Right handed bat that crushed left handed pitching. There is value here but redundant with my hope for a Miranda role.

Exactly, and Miranda has done more to deserve a good look than any other prospect.
