Game Thread: Twins vs. Baltimore, 5/25/21 @ 6:40pm

Good afternoon and welcome back to more game thread fun!! The Twin's seem to be heating up...can they make it 3 in a row? It was nice to see the Twins rally last night. Hopefully they can build off the momentum of last night and pull themselves out of the cellar. Berrios is throwing tonight too. Could be a good game!

Finally got moved into our new place last week but still surrounded by boxes and lots of stuff .left to unpack. Will listen to the game on the radio as our internet and TV's still aren't operating at their capacity. I decided to cut the cable cord as well. I doubt anyone on here cares but thought I would let you in on that anyway. I'm now a cord cutter! 

OK - I have to go back to unpacking boxes. Here's tonights lineups:

There’s a significant starter gap in this game and it’s exactly the kind of game the Twins need to win handily if they want to crawl back to .500.

Good luck with the unpacking. Moved here 21 years ago and still find the occasional box that hasn't been unpacked. Found a box full of moldy paperbacks out in my shop just this last winter; the authors now gone to that Best Seller's List in the Sky, though I know at least three of them are still writing books from the grave. Ghostwriters I guess.

Ditched satellite ten years ago. Can't say as I missed it, especially the constantly climbing monthly bills. Fees are now almost as high as the satellites.

I put a date on all of the boxes. Anything older than a year unpacked gets chucked into garbage bin.

It got me reminiscin' about society and technology and whatnot, i recalled the sadness of Dersu Uzala as he tried to live in the city and got in trouble for cutting down a tree in a park for firewood...

 

But in my interweb meanderin's following this thought, i found out George Lucas hinted that Dersu Uzala was the inspiration for the character of Yoda, according to wikipedia.

Is kiriloff considered better in RF than Max that he gets the nod when they're both batting, or are we just giving Maximilian a little extra mojito time in the dugout?

Takes two burly guys and a Finlander. The burly guys each get a vicegrips which they clamp on the cable about a foot apart. The Finlander steps in with a hacksaw and has at it. But you gotta watch it, if the burly guys lose their grip the loose end of the cable wraps itself around your billfold and sucks out the money faster than a Dyson vacuum.

Not at all. Remember Kepler has missed time and came out early in the game on Sunday because of some leg injury. So, he's just DHing for now. Kepler's a better OF.

Not even close, but Kepler is still battling hamstring tightness. He's not played center field for several days and was removed from the game on Sunday for Garlick because of the hamstring.

When the cord is cut don’t the burly guys both fall over backwards? And then file a work comp claim against the Finlander?  A German would eliminate that by using a side cutter, thus saving himself the expense of the two litigious burly guys.

Watching the center field camera shots of Berrios pitching makes me wonder how anyone ever hits the ball. He gets what seems like such good movement that I don't understand why he isn't a top 5 starter.

I've said this before but I enjoy hearing myself talk so I'll say it again.

I think the review system should be tweaked to reduce the likelihood of reviewer bias. If possible the reviewer(s) should not know the call on the field. Instead of looking for clear evidence to overturn the call on the field the reviewer(s) should call outcome A, outcome B, or inconclusive. Only in the event of an inconclusive finding should the call on the field stand.

There’s really no point in the New York reviewer knowing the call on the field unless it’s to protect the umpire.

That scenario seems like it forces the reviewer to make a call.  I'm not sure that's a bad thing though.  The system is flawed somehow either way.  I'm not a fan of replay in it's current form anyhow.

Makes it a touch more complicated to edit out the ump from any footage reviewed.

And if ya ain't gonna do that, reviewer will know the call anyway.

I like the above thoughts on replay, but if the current form stays I'd like to see the amount of looks NY gets at the play limited to 3. If you don't see anything that warrants an overturn after that, the play should stand. No reason these replays should take 3 or 4 minutes.

If the reviewer feels the outcome of the play is not clear s/he is not forced to make a call. S/he would simply rule inconclusive.

Depends on the situation. If there are 4 or 5 views of the play a reviewer should be able to see all of them before ruling.
