Darren Wolfson tweeted this morning that Willians Astudillo will be the 29th man today.

Have a feeling that Avila is more beat up than they have let known. Expect Jeffers will start one game with LaTortuga starting the other. If that happens, we will know more about Avila.

They need more than weak contact though, which is his jam.

I don't get why they wouldn't just put Avila on the 10-day IL, retroactive to 9/2, and then use the 29th man on a pitcher. 

 

It's downright maddening that they are opting for a bullpen game in this 5 game stretch and has the potential to be a colossal mistake.

This is because Avila is beat up. We need another catcher for these double headers. My guess is that Astudillo stays through the weekend to help out with the double headers and is back down on Monday unless Avila can't go next week. 

It's just the one this weekend, isn't it? Then another on Tuesday?

I would expect Poppen gets sent down, and he could return as the 29th man for the doubleheader in St. Louis.

I guess it's possible. I was hoping to avoid the Tortuga this year. Him being in St. Paul was the most pleasant part of the season.
