Shocker of all time (not) Abreu takes the QO from teh WS. Bizarre move by the Sox, frankly.

The Sox have and will have lots of youngsters. Not that Abreu really qualifies as a veteran, but moreso than many on their team right now. Plus, he really likes the White Sox and they like him. While it's a bit surprising they QO'd him, I can also see reasons why.

If I had to make a bet who out of that group gets traded this winter it's Lindor.

The Betts saga reminds me of when Falvey first came on board and shopped Dozier but couldn't find a good enough trade. It's difficult to just get hired and trade a star player. I think Bloom will take his time and explore the situation again in July.

My Cubs fan friends think that Bryant will get traded, and they think that the Padres will work a deal with them. But what they want is what everyone wants ... pitching.

No one would pay him close to that amount. If they wanted him, he's worth about seven million a year. They wasted millions.

Yeah, not saying that I would do it. But maybe to the Sox he's worth it. As bad as we think it is, I can sort of see why they might have.

I almost put this nugget in the Ex-Twins thread after how much we talked about this player in the winter of 2016/17. 3rd team in 3 years...

Wondered whether anyone had posted this here yet! His AAA numbers after returning from injury look pretty good. I wouldn't have minded the Twins taking a flyer at the price of PTBNL and cash.

Just looked at the transaction history and De Leon was traded in January 2017, so technically he is joining his 3rd team within 3 years, but that might exaggerate how dispensable he's been to those teams given that he just spent 3 full seasons with one organization.

Shoulder issues and Tommy John surgery, and he's 27. Not a good combination at this point. From views on him, he's back to previous velocity, which was low-90s, upper-80s fastball with three good breaking pitches. What's not come back since his shoulder issues is his once-devastating change. He used to get wicked late movement on his fastball and his change mirrored so well that it played as a double-plus pitch present (one review after 2015 had his change as the best in the game, majors or minors). That change relied on excellent arm speed mirroring with the fastball as well as excellent pitch tunneling. The pitch doesn't do that the same way anymore since the shoulder issues, and while it's still an above-average change, a guy with a 45 fastball, 55 change, 50 slider, and 45/50 curve is a swingman type.

The Atlanta team sure isn't waiting around.....

I like this as a fan. I like it even better knowing that every solid source I have points to the guys signed so far being secondary pieces in their offseason plan (other than Smith).

The Rangers are making progress on a Kyle Gibson deal. As a Twins fan, he was a good pitcher at his best and a great person...... but just terrible to watch. I just wish he had a little more trust in his stuff.... the walks hurt his image to Twins fans. Best of luck to him

Also, looks like Pomeranz is going back to San Diego. I think many of us were hoping for him. I'd assume they'll put him in the pen, but they just traded one of their starters to Milwaukee, and I don't think much of SD's baseball acumen, I could see this deal coming together because SD told Pomeranz they'd give him another shot at the rotation if that's what he'd most prefer.

Interesting Trade with Milwaukee completed today as well.

Good Lord. The GMs are back to handing out silly money!

That is based off of a half a year being a reliever after being a pretty mediocre starter, that's bananas.  Happy Holidays to Drew.

Yeah, I really like starters turned relievers 1 full year after the conversion so I was all on board to over pay for him.

But I thought that was going to be something like 2 years 12M!

Yeah the 29 inning sample size was very good no doubt. The Padres are really banking on him being as good as his Milwaukee tenure. If he's San Francisco or Boston Pomeranz this contract is gonna be a disaster.

Adrianza replacement? Dude is younger than you might think.

He was the Baltimore's 2nd best player last year (arguably their best) and they only have 59M committed to payroll next year. I can see why the other 29 clubs didn't trade for him as they can likely pay him less than that 10M arb projection, but no way does he give the Orioles the same consideration.

Not that they didn't already know it, but this will sure show the fans that they're in for another long season. Doesn't that franchise always complain about Washington encroaching into their territory? Moves like this sure won't help build the fan base.

FWIW, Pomeranz currently has a pedigree, profile, and contract not unlike Andrew Miller circa 2014, which worked out pretty well.

Multiple Positions and Speed.

I wanted mind if the Twins grabbed him.

We had a couple threads last year about adding Billy Hamilton, who can hit a ball 1 out of 10 times. This guy has wheels, plays several positions, and can hit!

There is something about Villar that you and I are not seeing. I realize that he has been inconsistent from season to season. Fantastic Years and Real Bad Years and Just plain good years but he shown ability.

Despite that ability he has bounced from franchise to franchise. The Astros let him go, The Brewers kinda pushed him off in a trade, the Orioles let him go.

There's something wrong but nothing his stats would suggest.

I've always liked him. And he can play OF to.

Just a reminder to not get too deep in the weeds using this thread to discuss who you want the Twins to sign or what you want the Twins to do. This thread is to follow signings and transactions elsewhere. Yes, it’s very organic to mention how you wish the Twins would do this and that as players get signed or traded by other teams, and that’s fine. But if you want to develop that Twins discussion, we have an entire forum devoted to those discussions. This thread and forum is here to discuss elsewhere. Thanks. :)

Moose to the Reds...

With this happening seemingly out of nowhere, yet it's still a four year deal, I'd bet it means all the teams know better than to wait around on Donaldson as he probably has no plans to sign any time soon.

The Reds are apparently moving Moustakas to second with Suarez being the third basemen. Heck of an infield for sure
