Domingo German put on administrative leave for domestic violence allegations

I really don't want to get this thread going in the way the Vasquez thread went, but German was put on admistrative leave for domestic violence allegations. This is obviously terrible news if true, but the ramifications are massive. Currently, the Yankees are the 2nd seed in the playoffs to the Astros. A playoff series with the Yankees is very possible. German was their 2nd best starter this year. This obviously doesn't mean as much as the potential crimes done.

I seriously think the MLB needs to take these allegations very seriously. There have been enough misfires in the past. It is just sad to see two young stars of the games to have potentially (for Vasquez, confirmed) committed such egregious acts.

This subject is topical, particularly to the Twins playoff situation. Please stay on point and refrain from the kinds of posts that closed the Vazquez thread.

Right now, administrative leave is 7 days. I assume so investigations can be done? That time can be extended, or, if further discipline is warranted, it could turn into a suspension where he would be ineligible for the post-season. Per what I read, players are still paid during an administrative leave, however, if it turns into a suspension, that pay is rescinded.

This could well be a big loss to the Yankees for the playoffs.  Be interesting if as a result the Yankees go to 2 starters (Severino and Paxton) and a lot of bullpen.

This is still another black eye to baseball, but they are doing a better job of addressing it, than most other sports. Still hope to see this resolved quickly.

What do you mean by that? All the sports leagues are concerned about this to some extent b/c they see it as a reputational harm to the sport. So they try to punish the players (and if that collaterally harms the victim, so be it). Or do you mean the pro sports leagues should work with players (and, in cases where it's needed, spouses) to get counseling and anger management and focus on the underlying issues that may have caused the incident?

It would be a good idea for the major sports leagues to work with players’ unions on issues if players aren’t released by the teams. There should be suspensions, but also mandatory counseling done to make sure there aren’t many repeated offenses.

The union had the right to appeal MLB's decision to put Domingo Germán on administrative leave but declined to do so, sources told The Athletic.

Wow.

According to MLBtraderumors German will not pitch again in 2019, and it is expected that he will get a substansial suspension next year.  As noted above it accorded at CC Sabathia's charity event and was witnessed by a member of the commissioner's office

Wow.

Because his action was so public, and done in front of MLB officials as well as teammates ... how can they appeal it?

Wow.

Yeah that's pretty telling isn't it? If the Union goes, "Yeah we're not touching this one", we all know where it's going

Allowing German to pitch in the post-season (given eye-witnesses from the Commissioner's office) would be an embarrassment to MLB.

They've let all the other alleged abusers do so. This just happened to be timed right.

Well, this isn't alleged, because it happened in full view of MLB officials.

If it wasn't so public, then, yes, an investigation would be in order.

Wow.

Where I work, there are certain things that are completely off limits and you will be hung out to dry if it turns out there is substantial evidence of wrongdoing.

This looks like the same kind of thing.
