The magic of Bert (and Dick) is in the nostalgia. His voice represents baseball to a generation of Twins fans. Some grew up watching games with Dick and Bert and fell in love with the sport to their narration. Baseball itself is such a timeless game steeped in history and tradition. Purposely moving at a slower pace. I shudder to think of what people would have said about Herb Carneal and John Gordon gag the internet been around for their last broadcasts. It's sad people can't appreciate that.

Both of them broadcast well into the internet years... like over a decade for both.

I won't really defend Dick but I think he's fine. Bert is just awful. He has nothing of interest to say anymore, though I feel he actually had something approaching insight 15 years ago.

Neither is an iconic broadcaster. It's not as if you heard Dodgers fans calling for Scully's head three years ago... because he was the greatest broadcaster in history. That transcends generations. Greatness is greatness, age does not matter.

I don't know. I think everybody loved Herb Carneal and John Gordon. I may be wrong, but they just seemed perfect.

Uh, I think we were looking for 1960ad, not 660bc

Excuse me, we're not discussing my age!

Vin Scully = true.

I guess in the age of 39 TVs broadcasting every angle of a baseball game, I don't understand a runner thinking he can skip a bag.

Dude.

Never liked Carneal as much as Ray Scott, whom he replaced.

There is room for argument on the call by Joe West at second base. The basepath is six feet wide so he could be interpreted as being in the base path even though he was on the third base side of second base.

One does not simply argue with Country Joe West.

The Sox put a nice video of me running around Target Field on the board just now. Such nice memories!

7: Iconic personality of the sixties: uh...me.

It says, "of the sixties" not "in their sixties."

He's getting older, and worse, each of the last two years. This team is DESPERATE for pitching next year, and putting money into a declining first baseman seems like a really bad idea.

Find a 3B and move Sano (as Chief suggests) or move Garver or Kiriloff (who was getting time at first this year). Or take a flyer on someone younger. but no way I spend real money on Abreu given their needs and budget.

I mean, I get the idea, it's just not who I'd choose. (neither is Cron)

if Kiriloff is ready, put him in Left and put Eddie at first. He’s declining rapidly in LF.

I have the sound turned down on the TV and I heard that line drive by Sano off the bat.

Shoulda heard it in person. The whistle it made is still ringing in my ears!

Include me in the "disagree with you" group. Ray Scott was a generic sports announcer who happened to work for the Twins for a bit. Herb was a baseball guy through and through and he also had the pipes and the talent for calling a game. He is surpassed only by Vin Scully. IMHO, of course.
