For the first time in 12 years (Santana/Liriano in 2006) I think the Twins might have a legitimate front of the rotation.

On Garver... If I were to guess. With an afternoon game tomorrow. No catcher was going to catch both games so Molitor probably decided that he wanted Garver to catch Odorizzi or wanted Garver to face Martinez.

As for Romero... He looks fantastic... He looks like a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. He looks like he is going to make it real hard to send him back down.

I think if, from what little I've seen, Romero keeps it up, Hughes isn't much longer for the Twins.

The Twins are in position to have a formidable starting rotation over the next few years, if Romero is able to continue his success.

Twins rotation consisting of Berrios, Gibson, Romero and Santana looks pretty good this year. Bullpen should be solid and arms waiting in Rochester to take Santana's spot if his option isn't picked up.

Then, with the return of Buxton, Sano and Polanco...

Good question. when does Erv begin rehab? Romero looks good, but SSS. Also, Lynn looked better last time out. A decision doesn't have to be made for 3 more starts, I believe.

It seems from what's been said, that he's eventually going to move to the pen to keep his innings down.  But I don't see anyone other than Lynn right now that gets nixed from the rotation in the meantime, even if that means eating a lot of dough.   (Heh... Lynn... lot of dough.... ;-)  )

But that one-year contract is looking mighty good right now.

Santana (finger) is scheduled to throw 15 pitches off a mound Tuesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
*that was last Tuesday

Bert is easily our worst color guy. Give me Torii, Justin, Latroy, or Smalley every day with Dick.

To heck with that, give us Morneau and Smalley with Torii and LaTroy filling in once in a while.

Romero bumps Lynn when Santana comes back if this keeps up?

It'll be an interesting situation if nobody goes on the DL. Chances are... someone will be on the DL.

If not... May straight to the pen. Santana part of a 6 man rotation?

Dozier is one of the most extreme hot/cold guys I can remember. He goes long stretches one way or the other and it's really painful when he's stuck in a month plus cold stretch.

Injuries have a way of making decisions easier.

Hm. The Cards' rook is settling down, too.

Golly, I was hoping they'd toast him, and get into their already-tired pen by now, but he's toughing it out.

**Edited**--  we may need a few more runs yet tonight.

Yeh, especially painful when Molly keeps him in critical spots in the order all the while, too.  Maybe a couple of days, at least, at 7, just to shake things out a little?

Is there an assumed innings limit for Romero?

90.1 in 2016

125 in 2017

About 150-160 this year?

If so, what's the plan? The way things are going, I could see using him as a starter until he gets to about 125-130, which is probably about July 31. If the Twins are out of it, let him go to his max as a starter. If the Twins are still in it, move him to the bullpen and that's a pretty impressive trade deadline pickup.

Kinda hoping the kid wouldn't have to face Fowler with guys on this inning....

Let's see how he handles it....

Nicely done!

I am like, way impressed with this kid's presence and moxie.

Do we have a catchy nickname for him yet?

Come on, TD, I know there's one out there....  :jump:

Give him another inning with 4-5-6 coming up? I would, but have Hildy or Duke warm just in case

I'd concur, but don't let him face the tying run.

I'm liking this Romero kid a lot. The difference between him and Hughes is quite vast, and I'm happy they called him up so soon.

I know they felt like they had to give Hughes one last chance, but those 2 starts of Hughes really wasted what might be limited Romero innings (by leaving him in AAA).

Really? Up and in?

Agree. I am fine with beaning someone because Romero hit someone (although not intentional. If you want to out the leadoff runner on first with no outs, then thanks. But don't mess with the head. These pitchers have enough control to hit somewhere else that isn't someone's dome. Stupid.
