Badsmerf Verified Member Posted July 27, 2018 Author Posted July 27, 2018 Did they have to sign a form to allow them in the show? I highly doubt any of those people would be proud of that. They deserve any amount of shame they receive. I expect that type of reaction in many places around the country. That probably isn't too far off from the people that select the majority of our senators.

PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 Here's another article that's relevant to some past discussions: Democrats Must Reclaim the Center … by Moving Hard Left
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 From numlock news (nice free email of random stats): A new Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 84.5 percent of Democrats and 51.9 percent of Republicans would support a policy of Medicare for All in the U.S. healthcare system. The precise implementation of that policy credo is a bit fluid, but the gist is about 70 percent of Americans look favorably on offering some sort of baseline medical care in the U.S.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I really think it's a winning issue if the Dems have the courage to take the heat and lay it out.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 So McCain is discontinuing treatment. Does anyone know how senators are replaced in Arizona? Could Ducey nominate someone this fall?
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 They are replaced by special election. Arizona could go from solid red to solid blue within a year.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Yes, but the election wouldn’t take place this year (with the general election). As I understand it, the election wouldn’t be held until 2020, so the governor’s appointee would have two years in office before facing the electorate.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 One more factoid is that the appointee has to be the same party as the Senator he’s replacing, meaning that even if a Democrat was making the appointment, a Republican would be named. Sorry, Chief, you’re off the board.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I just want to say while I didn't always agree with John McCain's politics, he is someone I greatly admire. He served his country admirably, with incredible courage and dignity, and he is still doing so today. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family, Senator. I salute you.

One thing I will always respect about McCain - he's a rare politician willing to 1. go against his party, and 2. change his beliefs based on evidence. We could use roughly 100 Senators just like that.

I thought it was more like Alabama than Minnesota...
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 The man stopped one of his supporters, at a rally, to rebuke a lie andcompliment his opponent (Obama) as a great man and a great American. That's what I think of when I think of McCain - a man of honor and respect. I was proud to vote for John McCain and I wish his final days to be blessed, positive, and peaceful. We could use more Americans like him.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 A true American hero. I also have always had the utmost respect for the man.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 Who could be appointed to replace John McCain in the Senate, and the process behind it, explained
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 John McCain, dead at age 81.Rest in peace, sir.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 A memorable leader, with a legacy that will not be forgotten. A true American hero died today, and it brought me to tears. I wish we had more people like John McCain leading or country, but the reality is we do not. I could say so many things about this man, but others will do a much better job in books. I did not agree with everything he did or said, but I can tell you, I trust he was doing what he felt best for me.

His integrity was needed now more than ever, and will be sorely missed.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Sadly, but not surprisingly, McCain's captor from Vietnam gave a more genuine and heartfelt tribute than Trump could muster.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 The Florida governors race should be very interesting, what with the Trump endorsed Desantis against the Bernie endorsed Gillum.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 In AZ, the senate race tracks to rather moderates given the times. I thought Sinema's victory statement showed some class.
slash129 Verified Member Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Interesting market play ... They've been losing share .... Addidas, Reebok, etc. may find some additional share in marketing to military.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 So former Sen. Jon Kyl will replace McCain, but has only committed to a year, leaving the possibility that Ducey could nominate someone else, even himself, prior to 2020. Still surprising that Ducey passed on the opportunity to nominate a Republican who could run as the incumbent in 2020 (I suppose that could still happen); this feels like a very safe choice.

'When Kyl takes office, he will restore the GOP's 51-49 seat majority in the Senate. That margin is critical now as the GOP seeks a majority vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Kyl was charged with helping Kavanaugh navigate the confirmation process in the Senate, and "now, Senator Kyl can cast a vote for Kavanaugh's confirmation," Ducey said on Tuesday.'
