We replace a 6.41 ERA pitcher with an 11.40 ERA pitcher. (Sorry folks, I don't cherry pick Colon's season). Is this a team that has playoff hopes? It is still early. I hate to see Molitor conceding the game.

You don't have to cherry pick his numbers this year, they obviously aren't good. But from who else were the twins getting what they've gotten from him? What starter?

I was so hoping that was going to be the TK statue. Very disappointed.

We don't swing at first pitches. No way. We watch the meat. We swing at pitches out or on the edge of the zone later in the count.

Personally, this season is a success, period, regardless of what happens from now on. If we get to play a post-season game or three, so much the better, but for me this year has been about seeing progress from Sano, Polanco, Kepler, Rosario, and, especially, Buxton and Berrios. Seeing that group start to do good things more often and bad things less often makes me confident that there will be lots of post-season action over the next five years. We all knew coming in that there were serious problems in the rotation and the bullpen. And there are. If the front office can patch these holes in the next year or two, the Twins are going to be a formidable squad.

The only thing that has disappointed me this year is that (due to injuries) we still don't really know what we can expect from Jay, Burdi, and Chargois, all of whom were expected to be Twins by now. Next year will be try-outs for those three and also maybe for starters such as Romero and Gonsalves. At best there will be bumps that, ideally, could have happened this year. At worst we'll lose a dozen games figuring out that some (or all) of these guys aren't good enough.

I'm enjoying the stretch drive and the possibility that this team could end up playing a few games in October. But even if that doesn't happen I'll think that this season was successful.

Agreed. I don't really care how the season plays out, I'm going to enjoy the ride either way.

I agree, although I will say that I had a very similar feeling about the following year at the end of the 2015 season. And we all know how that turned out.

The difference to me is that 2015 was largely done using past their prime veterans that this team signed to tread water. This year is mostly driven by a young and developing core.

That is also true. We do still have a ton of holes to fill, pitching wise, and many other teams do as well. It may take years to reconstruct the pitching staff.

Agreed. There's still a ways to go, but things are trending in the right direction.

That's not something I was sure I'd be saying at the beginning of the year after the offseason this team had.

I hear you, but  the difference to me is that two years ago I was saying, "Next year could be even better." This year I'll be saying, "Next year should be even better."

I have high hopes for Trevor May as a #3-4 starter. A rotation of Santana, Berrios, May, Mejia, and Gibson would seem satisfactory to me. And if we get another good starter through trade or signing (or one of the youngsters blooming quickly) then the rotation *could be* good.

While I didn't foresee the implosion that occurred coming, I didn't figure they'd repeat or improve upon what they did in 2015. Next season, if they don't improve upon this season I will be very disappointed. That's why I don't expect to see a repeat of last offseason. Something is wrong if they don't find a way to build off of what they've done this season.

Exactly.

After 2015, it was "We could be better in 2016 and still only win 78-80 games." Instead, we imploded.

This year, even if we go .500 the rest of the way, we'll end up with 84 wins and be saying that 90 is very reachable, especially with a good off-season. I don't think any of us were thinking about 90 wins going into last year.
