Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Fangaphs posted their updated Top 10 Prospect lists for teams in the AL Central. There's a new #1 on the list!
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Author Posted August 15, 2017 Also, Fangraphs is already labeling Royce Lewis as a CF, even though he's only played SS so far in his short professional career.
SF Twins Fan Verified Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Not sure how seriously you can take a site when they don't label a player's position correctly, especially when he was the 1st overall pick in the most recent draft. I get it that some people don't see him sticking at SS, but you need to label his position correctly since he's only played SS in his career so far. If they labeled him a CF on purpose then they should at least mention that in the writeup.

And, these writeups are very, very, short for every team. It's a list update, with a few notes. But, you can certainly choose not to take the list seriously if you want based on that. I think it is good news that Lewis is number 1 on the list for Eric. It shows confidence in that pick.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I do like the Lewis pick, and the Enlow pick. And Rooker. And Leach. But there has been a fair amount of churn since the season started, ie. Jay, Stewart, and Rortvedt. At least Gordon, Gonsalves, Javier and others are hanging on though.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Eric is chatting right now, I asked bout the Lewis position. If he answers, I'll post it here.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Yeah in my opinion Lewis is as likely to play SS for the MLB Twins as I am, so I don't see any problem with a prospect site listing him at CF.By definition, these type of lists are opinion, not fact.
clutterheart Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 The defensive worries with Gordon keep coming up. I hope its just noise, but if he can't stick at SS, I don't see him being an everyday player.
goulik Verified Member Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Garver mentioned as a bench only role player... really?
drjim Provisional Member Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Garver mentioned as a bench only role player... really?Um, yes? That is his likely outcome.

Some scouts are dubious, others aren't. But everyone seems to think he can handle 2B, which combined with his offensive potential still would project him as a solid regular.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 The Twins have soooooo many shortstop candidates. Who stays, who moves? Be telling next season to see where they play Gordon. If at second or not. Of course, an off-season decision on Dozier needs to happen. At best, would Garver catch 75-80 games a season, or would he be that 40-50 games behind-the-plate and a bench bat, so to speak, mainly DH or spelling 1B? Who's at short? Palacios? Javier? You got a bunch of backups coming along at the same speed>
The Wise One Verified Member Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Garver mentioned as a bench only role player... really? Not a full time starter at any position. Career year with his bat. What would make you think he can sustain a .342 BABIP and play catcher daily?
beckmt Verified Member Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Defense can be learned, I see no issues with Gordon being the SS for the intermediate future. Rest will play itself out. Most are 2-3 years away and Dozier will probably not be here at that time. We need to be a little patient and wait for this to play out..
