At my age I probably don't even notice until it's too late.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm probably half your age and would also miss it or be oblivious and get drilled in the crotch.

What's happened to Berrios? I haven't been watching the game but following the box score, things do not look good. I really thought he was going to be progressing at this point.

It seems to me it's all about command of the fastball.  When he has it, he is really good, when he doesn't you get games like this...

Things are often much easier in theory than in practice.

In theory, in theory and in practice are the same. In practice, in theory and in practice are different.

I really like the fact that Molitor pulls these guys when he does. Last night he was a bit late, but at least he is showing a good head and knows that every game really does matter

To answer my own earlier question, Berrios wasn't squaring up his lead shoulder properly, and he was opening up his lead shoulder too soon. This was causing him to push the ball in his release, which created too much loft, less spin, etc. Looked like Allen corrected him between 1st and 2nd innings, but then Berrios lost his release point in the 4th. Bad outing.

This is why you don't DFA Pressly when he was struggling earlier this year.

Guy has got perhaps the best stuff of any pitcher on the team.

So true, but sometimes a guy with crazy movement, like Sam Deduno, just can't get it under control. I'm glad Pressly is finding his form. When the Twins first got him, I thought Pressly had great starter stuff. Maybe they could still give him a look... ;-)

While this winning streak is nice and all, if the starters don't do a better job of going longer in starts they could easily go on a long losing streak. 3-4 inning starts are not a winning formula.

Nice game so far for Joe.

In my uneducated opinion, it seems like Berrios gets inside his own head a lot. When his command is good, he has the stuff to strike people out and jam people up when he gets in trouble. But when he gets in trouble and he doesn't have his command, it always seems to snowball and the hits and runs come in bunches.

So does Berrios' 4.27 ERA for the season now move him into a mediocre pitcher category? Or is he still in the conversation for an "ace"?

You can make quite a list--Polanco, Buxton, Mauer, Belisle-who some have called for being taken off the roster. It's a long season.

Agree but not clicking "Like This".

    Yes? Yes to what question? Classic avoidance.

Yes to both. If you're looking at the MLB as a whole, going off his ERA he has had an average to mediocre season. For the Twins' current rotation, he's certainly been above average, but thats not saying much. And he still has the potential to be an ace. He has the stuff to be an ace and has had games and stretches where he is an ace. Whether or not he can consistently do that over a larger sample size is yet to be seen. He hasn't even pitched 200 MLB innings, bit early to give you a finite answer of what he's going to be.
