"All of them" would have covered "both of them" yet left us with the illusion there many are Friends of Chief.

I hope it continues. Right now he has his highest BA, OBP, and SP since 2013. Also interesting that his GO/AO is the lowest of his entire career ... by a lot. That means fewer DPs and maybe more line-drive hits.

He should be in the conversation about making the All Star Game.

I'll take "Baseball Stats that are not Expected" for $100, Alex.

Oh, my running theory on the significance of minfding one's Ps and Qs....

There was this one Reverend Spooner who renowned for mixing things up in a particular fashion: he would get the first consonent of two words right, but then he would somehow swap the rest of the words around.

Anyway he was apparently giving sermon about how taking care of responsibilities was important, how, in order to take care of the church he always minded his pews and keys. Or at least that is what he meant. Instead the congregation went home genuinely intent on minding their own Ps and Qs.

And that is why that kind of word play is call a Spoonerism.

But i might have gotten something backwards there...

Portsmouth Sinfonia is the sort of musical group i wish i could be part of. They performed Also Sprach Zarathustra...

Did i do that right?

According to what I just read, having the ability to play an actual instrument disqualifies one from staying in the, umm, orchestra. <<<I'm using that word in the loosest sense.

You turned a history of Spoonerisms into a Malapropism?

Ah. So not throwing out the first pitch.

I had vaguely infered the first pitch would not happen if you ran late...

Either way ... not gonna make it. Waiting for 2nd train now. Then a 5 block walk to home

Not entirely. Flautist could play bassoon for them. I believe it just disqualified you from playing that specific instrument you knew how to play.

So perhaps i would be allowed to play a loophonium for them?

Impending welcome home!

I drove a car older than me out of state for the first time last night.

I drove it back this afternoon, and was relieved to make it back safely.

And this morning i got to play with a wood chipper, after minimal instructions aimed at averting a reenactment of the scene from Fargo... Long day.

I'm as much of a "numbers guy" as anyone (though not as sophisticated about baseball analytics), but it's pleasing how effectively the Twins have bounced back this weekend from a hideous series against Houston. It would have been easy, given the unexpected nature of their success in the early season, for them to get down and go into an extended slump. But they didn't.

Some disparage talk about "veteran leadership" and "clubhouse influence," but I have been pleasantly surprised by this weekend's rebound and hope that it means something positive about the collective "character" of the men in the dugout (including the manager and coaches). If they can avoid long losing streaks they might have a decent chance of contending late into the season.

Not sure what that is and I'm afraid to look it up.

I'm married to a flutist. A flautist (unless French) is a flutist who thinks she is better than she is...

Pujols can hardly move and the Angels announcers are talking about how important Pujols is to the team and that Pujols is "tough" playing through an injured hamstring.

I have to admit, that's some mighty fine Angels propaganda.

In fairness, it is critically important that they have at least one slugger with Trout on the DL.

He's been worth negative WAR so far this year but if you compare him to the rest of their lineup, he's one of the more "dangerous" Angels hitters.

I get that, but Pujols, right now, really doesn't look like a legitimate threat. Seems to me the Angels just don't have anyone in the pipeline they can bring up to bridge Trout being gone. And Trout is going to be out for quite a while.
