Seeking guest hosts for live, uncensored Twins broadcasts during select games

Hey there Twins fans. I'm looking for guest hosts to appear on a live, uncensored broadcast during select Minnesota Twins games. The name of the show is **** Dick and Bert, as it's meant to be a fun, helpful alternative to the Fox Sports North audio broadcast. I think the last game I did, a 1-0 win over Cleveland, was the best so far when it comes to play-by-play and the best so far regarding listeners, but having another voice for even a few segments would be helpful, as I'm currently the producer and host of the show.

 

The idea behind this project is to never go to commercial. We advertise products and services that are hopefully helpful to our audience throughout the broadcast, and do so using personal, humorous stories to which people can relate. Some examples of segments include the Second Inning Chef (share a game day recipe), Plead the Fifth Inning (free legal advice from my attorney once we get live phone calls hooked up), the Sexy Sixth Inning (we talk about sex and sex toys), and the Seventh Inning Stretch (we share a yoga routine that alleviates pain or improves overall health).

I love the idea however I wonder if there isn't a better name for it than Fake Dick and Bert?

It's **** Dick and Bert, but I get from where you're coming. I've pondered a name change for marketability purposes. Puck Dick and Bert has been a consideration because I'd like to talk hockey during the broadcasts as well, given the love our listeners have of hockey.

Do you do every game?

Trying to do as many as possible, but my voice has been lost to a sore throat, so today's planned broadcast is cancelled. I'll be at the game tomorrow and how I feel will determine whether I do a broadcast.

 

For away games, I like to go to a place where Twins fans congregate to watch the game. Plus it gives the place some exposure, and we get good ambient sound if there's actually people watching the game and reacting. Eventually, I'd like to turn my apartment into a studio for broadcasts, but that won't be until July at the earliest. I'm trying not to buy any new tech until I lock up my first sponsor.

Also I used to co own a pretty successful porn and sex site (mr skin bought us!), so I can lend in all sorts of useful tidbits for the 6th inning bit.

Cool. That would be perfect. Love your HIcks/Murphy updates, too. I take it you're not in Minneapolis, though.

Negative, though I am in Minnie every couple months for work.

Twins all the way.

 

I prefer the Mets over the Yankees, but don't really care for either. I do end up making it to about a dozen or so games a year though at Yankee stadium and have a couple friends in the org.

Well ask them if they'd be interested in calling games and putting together a show that helps and entertains. Otherwise, stay in touch and we'll find a way to get you on.

what technology do you need for it? I'd chip in a few bucks to make it happen, I'm a big fan of the idea in general.

Well I'd like to get a 4-channel field mixer with USB output. Have a Behringer Xenyx saved to my cart, but then I'd want a couple wireless lavaliere mics so the show's more portable. The mixer would make it easy to take calls. About $100 investment, but I'm making it a point to bootstrap it. I'll pick up what I think I need for calls tomorrow so I can test it before Thursday. If it works, I'll let you know so you can call in. I can always return it if it doesn't work. Chromebooks are a little difficult when it comes to recognizing hardware.

As a guess, that this one sounds pretty tasteless probably appeals to a certain group of people.

There's seldom a curse word in the broadcast besides the title of the show, which can be changed based on response. This topic was started to get that kind of feedback, so if that's your takeaway perhaps a name change is necessary.

Dinger can PM you and give you specifics, but he came up with this idea when he was approached to do a game thread. He basically started the game thread with all the pertinent info and lead ins then gave the link to his audio broadcast and encouraged people to listen while being active on the thread here, online. His audio link had a place for people to 'chat' as well, but we encouraged people not to chat there, but here. Dinger can tell you how it went but from my perspective, there would be a couple of things I might change, or at least think about going forward; and I'm sure dinger has his own list, too.

 

One, he did his broadcast when it wasn't Dick n Bert, but rather Dick n Torii, and a lot of people wanted to hear how Torii would do. Two, he did a weekend thread, and I think participation was down on the thread, as well as listening, due to it being a nice weekend day. And three, I think Dinger found it difficult doing it alone. Moving forward, I'm not sure trying to do more than a game here and there, at least for this season, would be a good idea. I think one needs to look at the schedule ... both of the Twins games and who is in the broadcast booth ... and identify games where it would be really good to have an alternative. And build audience first before opening up with more games.

 

It's a really good concept ... you and Dinger, obviously both great minds thinking alike ... but I think you need to start out with a game here and there and build once there is solid following. And start by really pinpointing good games to do this with ... I'd choose a weeknight when both Dick n Bert are in the booth ... not sure how much the opponent would fit into this and if an away vs home game would be better. I'd choose an away game because there are a lot of us 'out of market' folks who might also want an alternative to the home team's and the Twin's broadcast.

 

Anyway ... PM Dinger and ask him his thoughts, but those are mine. Maybe the two of you could do a joint broadcast/game thread going forward? Hmmm ....
