Keith and I, like so often times are before are on the right side of history yet again!

As the great Mac Davis said in one of his songs from the past;

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble,

When you're perfect in so many ways

I look in the mirror, I get better looking each day

So when filtering LF with 100 or more PA, 34 names came up. Aaron Hicks leads in wRC+ with a 183, Rosario is 26th with an 89. Of course Hicks plays everywhere in the OF and he will show up on the same filter for CF, but still. Almost 100 point difference in weighted runs created plus.

This is what bugs me the most, I for a couple years have been saying Rosario is the one who should have been shopped, and the crazy thing is: he would have maybe brought back a much better package then Hicks anyways! (Due to early success)

Ugh.

Prove that Rosario would have brought more back in trade.  Rosario was only on one ranking service as a top 100 prospect.  So what lightly regarded outfield prospect with one season of mlb ball that could be considered his ceiling brought back a young player of note in the analytic era?  Maybe he would have is not a reality but baseless conjecture.

He said "maybe", which clearly frames it as opinion.

We really can't state an opinion now on a fan message board without objective proof?

It's not really baseless, Rosario had shown more success at the major league level then Hicks (who was traded at his rock bottom value imo) Rosario would be a damn fine CF for many teams, he doesn't hit enough to be a good corner Of, but CF? I think he would be above average overall, which is why at the time I feel like he could have gotten a beturn return then JR Murphy

It's not so much about his prospect rating, those go out the door once a guy closes in on 1000 major league at bats in my opinion.

I can not remember the times you were correct before.

You can read about them in my upcoming book :)

No, after a terrible 2016, his value fell further.

Moderator's note: There is no value to this kind of response. Since the target of your response already replied, I'm just going to leave it alone, except to point out that the long version of the site's Comment Policy covers this situation exactly from both angles:

  1. "It's much easier to be accidentally disrespectful to other members (or unnamed groups of members) when you make it be *about* them."
  2. "A corollary is to be wary of making it be about yourself."

Let's keep it respectful.

Hicks had value in trade for his ceiling and still being young enough to reach it. Hot stretches to confirm the ceiling might be obtainable. Rosario performed at a level in the major leagues in 2015 far above a level his AA performance or his short AAA career would project. In an analytic age after the 2015 season the Twins would be the likely the only team to overvalue Rosario. A .310 woba is not anything to lure other teams for a hitter in CF.

Another day. Another home run and great work in the field by our Boy Hicks.

Awww..this is cute!  Is this a yearly tradition now?

Cuz I remember this from last year too and Hicks ended with a .617 OPS and 65 OPS+.

Over/under on him topping 70 this year?  I take the under.

Are all of you naysayers still sticking with the Under? (because I would like a piece of that action).

Aaron Hicks OPS+ (May 23): 168

Ellsbury headed to concussion DL which opens up CF for Hicks.

Last 10 games though not so good for him, hitting just .166. Season average has now dipped below .300 and OPS is once again below 1.000.

Still has a .742 OPS in the last 10 games, though.  2 HR, 8 BB, and a .342 OBP in that stretch, but only a .158 BABIP.

so if he's replacement level the rest of the way, he puts up around 2 WAR more than Rosario. Sigh.

I never loved Hicks, and I had no issue with the trade. It wasn't working here, and they needed a catcher. I never loved JRM, but it seemed like two guys that would be ok backups were traded for each other.

Hicks with a solid night:

4 for 5, 3 doubles, 2 runs and 6 RBI
Average back up to .317 OPS back up to 1.016

I know even as recently as last week folks were like "lol lucky start, hes gonna revert to what he was etc etc"

It's time for even those folks to Admit, Hicks is legit. His OPS trails Sano only by 12 points. He would look pretttttty pretttttty prreeeetttttyyy good hitting #2 in this lineup right now.

Those are mostly the same people that said the Cubs and Astros weren't ahead of the Twins in their rebuild....as recently as this spring....

The criminal part of this is that Terry traded three starting CF in a two year span and got out of it one borderline acceptable season from Trevor May and a bunch of trash.

I think hicks has gotten hits in 27 of his last 32 games. On base in 30 of those.

Yup! Unreal.

I don't really mind the Revere (especially) or Span trades because both netted a couple high upside SP

But hicks, man that bothered me then and now. You don't give up a CF like that for a dude who is known to be a backup C at best.

Revere started games in CF, but I would not call him a starting centerfielder. The Twins netted more for him in trade than any other team would have.   The Span trade was like plunking down  a month's salary for this week's powerball.   Ryan thought he had a play for a jackpot. Good for him.

Hick took over a year away from the Twins to be good. A little PTSD?  Wrong hitting coach. Ryan did not recognize that. Look how much better everyone but Dozier is doing away from Bruno.  For a .500 ops hitter the Twins got a good return. Ooopisie.

But we are even with the Astros (first place) and ahead of the Cubbies! :). Our rebuilds are all on the same path, and level. :)
