No, the civility narrative is the crux.  You're ignoring that and focusing on semantics. 

 

Remember when you implied you didn't understand ashbury's post?  Yeah.  That.  You didn't understand it.  And subsequently that has colored all of your responses since. (not favorably I might add)

 

We can talk about civility though, I'm not interested in ignoring that.  I think the role of civility vs. disruption in protest is fascinating because it is a tenuous balancing act.

I genuinely hope so.  But it was taken off of twitter and I have a long-standing policy of "assume the worst" about anything posted on that medium.  

 

And I am worried both sides are going to start taking to more militarized phrasing about their political struggle.  We know the gun nuts on the right have been doing that for awhile and right-wing radio has been pimping the culture "war" for some time.  I think once both sides start embracing that terminology more regularly we might really be in trouble.  So, yeah, I'm not keen on "freedom fighters" any more than I am "culture war".

 

That's a bad road to go down IMO.

One of the best examples of this recently is South Dakota. Heavy Republican state in general, but kept Daschle and Tim Johnson in office for decades due to their tremendous ability to relate to the totality of the state and act in the best interests of agriculture. When Daschle became the public face for opposition to Bush Junior just after 9/11, it cost him his seat. Johnson ended up retiring out of his. Then the state had their next generation of tremendous Democratic representative in Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin, but the Republicans attached her hard with AMA and used her support on that bill to indicate she was a party-line lackey, which is opposite of the truth. Now she's hesitant to jump into anything state politics, which is horrible because she really was the type of person and politician that would have carried on Daschle's and Johnson's legacies.

Very true. The SD Democratic party basically is now a shell. I do have a small sliver of hope for the Gubernatorial candidate this year. A State Senator, disabled former cowboy from west river. Fairly moderate. Basically trying to run as an independent saying parties don't matter. I don't think he can win, but a single digit loss would be a victory.

It's shocking, in a way, that it's not shocking.  We're being conditioned to accept his villainy as normality.

 

His actions don’t surprise me. When it comes to human decency, he will always, always, always be on the other side. I don’t accept his villainy as normal. But I do expect his villainy at every turn. I surprise myself by thinking I can’t be more disgusted with him and then he does something to prove me wrong.

If you/we can't manage shock, I think it is important that you/we feel disgust.

After having written many best selling books, and somewhat priding myself on my ability to write, it should be noted that the Fake News constantly likes to pour over my tweets looking for a mistake. I capitalize certain words only for emphasis, not b/c they should be capitalized!

 

 

Although this might not completely explain council vs counsel --- to vs too -- (or in this case pour vs pore)   and lack of coherent thought or statements not backed by fact (or contrary to fact).

And that it's not grammatical to use capitalization as emphasis.

Although I am pretty sure most of my writing instructors told me ending everything with an exclamation point signifies good writing and intelligence.

No possible way he wrote that tweet on his own. He wouldn't be tweeting about it if he wasn't bothered that people know when he writes them and when he doesn't. Maybe Hannity helped him worth that message...

 

On a unrelated note, CNN is saying Pruitt wants to be attorney general. There isn't a more loathsome human that could possibly occupy that position than him. I have a hard time seeing him ever getting confirmed, but it wouldn't be far fetched to guess he'd try to end the Russia investigation. I almost hope it happens, just to see the fall out. Our democracy is already in jeopardy though, and this would only make it worse.

I hope so......but it always seems to get worse.

The guy likely to replace him is a fossil fuel lobbyist, so it won't improve on that front.  But I am glad to see there at least seems to be some limit on the amount of corruption that is politically viable for this administration.
