TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 I other news, Trump is making a mockery of the presidency in Europe this week. American idiot is in the top 20 in the UK right now. He called the Russia investigation a witch hunt again.... after being briefed that 12 Russians were going to be indicted. He still thinks Russia is our friend. Well, they are oblivious his friend since they helped get him elected. I love how he declared fake news and then everyone played the tape directly contradicting him. Truth has become so irrelevant to our politics.

Badsmerf Verified Member Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Wow. I listened to the press conference and was dumb struck. I listened to the faux news review and it was not sunshine and rainbows, but the CNN review was very pointed and scathing. Trump was chewed up and spit out by Putin. Then, drenched in saliva, deflected questions aimed at Putin and displayed a joined effort to manipulate the truth.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Is this finally the straw that breaks the camel's back?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Is this finally the straw that breaks the camel's back? Nope. plenty of my RW friends still all over him like he's a god to them or something.....mind. boggling.
jimmer Verified Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 At this point, no amount of proof against that turd will convince his ardent supporters he did even the slightest thing wrong.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Is this finally the straw that breaks the camel's back? There are many conservatives who are breaking with Trump today, but I have no idea if this is just a minority of people being pushed forward by those whom I agree with it, or if it represents a real change. For instance:
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I'm trying not to be too hopeful, but Fox is pretty harsh on it right now even. If that's any barometer.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Nope. plenty of my RW friends still all over him like he's a god to them or something.....mind. boggling. It is mind boggling. Even against all evidence, nope, that evidence is all fake. People have GOT TO VOTE this November. And I honestly don't believe enough will ... either through an 'I don't care, it doesn't change my life' apathy or supression ... or ... whatever reason ... not enough will to make a difference. We are doomed.

We aren't doomed..... but, the laws are set up to favor the minority. And, people don't vote all that much. so, yes, things are not likely to get much better any time soon.....but we are not doomed.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Be curious to see what he says in his Hannity interview. Not that Hannity will be giving him some hard-hitting questions, but sometimes when Trump is feeling comfortable and among friends. he cannot shut up and says more incriminating things than as if he was interviewed by a real journalist.

I really don't. I see nothing in sight to rally around or to be hopeful about. It's the death of a nation. How this will affect each one of us individually? I have no idea. But I have never been so uncertain, never have I felt such overwhelming dread for a situation as what we have today. I guess that's what I think of as doomed.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 The only way to correct it is to convict him of treason, impeach him, and throw him in jail. I’d accept impeachment at this point but that won’t happen. It says a LOT about those who still support him and those who will do nothing (GOP lawmakers).
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Talk is cheap. And there are no moderates, they vote party line all the time.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Good luck to Trump to talk himself out of this one. The Republicans should get eaten alive with this performance at the midterms. They will try to save face, but for the swing voters, this should be a tough issue to ignore.

Extreme partisanship has taken hold and people will vote party or won’t vote. And voters who support Trump will continue to disregard actual news over their right wing crap.

Time is not on the Republican side right now. The culture is going to shift dramatically in the next 20 years. Much more racial diversity, and much less religious.

There's no reason to expect that. Frankly, the Dems are closer to becoming a regional party right now. The GOP controls everything.
ashbury Verified Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 We've been hearing the "GOP is doomed due to demographics" for a decade plus now. There's no reason to expect that.Make that, my entire lifetime. As I've said, Hippies and 60s peaceniks voted for Trump - that would seem to tell us something. The change in demographics is hard to interpret because of the opposite effect that people behave differently as they age.Frankly, the Dems are closer to becoming a regional party right now. The GOP controls everything. It's a flaw with the political system. That "region" could end up being where a majority of the nations's population lives. It was intentional by the founding fathers that cities be in thrall to the rural folks - I can understand their fear of a minority's rights being trampled, although they were pretty inconsistent on worrying about some types of minority, but I'm not sure enough safeguards are there to prevent that electoral minority from simply imposing their will as national policy.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted July 17, 2018 Author Posted July 17, 2018 The balance for that problem is supposed to be the house, but it is so skewed by gerrymandering, it isn't functioning the way it was intended. I'm not sure I buy the demographic argument. The same people that voted Trump also probably voted for Bush, and voted for Bush, possibly even Reagan. It isn't like a Republican shockingly accumulated enough votes to win. I don't need to go through all the reasons democrats lost again, it has been discussed to death already. I think the election in 2020 will be a much better representation of Democrat support.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I'd have a lot easier time blaming the electoral college for Dem woes if the Presidency was a consistent problem for them. They've done just fine claiming that office 16 out of the last 26 years. The complaints about that are seriously overblown. (And often in error) It also doesn't explain how they get their ass handed to them from school board to governor. The problem is, and has been for quite a while, turnout. Dems need to spend more time pushing people to register and vote through the obstruction the Republicans intentionally create for them.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted July 17, 2018 Author Posted July 17, 2018 I'd say it is more likely those hippies didn't vote rather than changed their vote. I don't think democrats are motivated the same way republicans are, especially evangelicals. Republicans are much more passionate at the ballot box when something infringes on their beliefs.

I have many friends who hated Trump but voted for him anyway, because he was the Republican candidate. Some voted Johnson but most voted Trump. Because it’s what they do, election to election, without fail, en masse. Liberals don’t do that. They feel a moral or ethical duty to NOT vote for someone who doesn’t match their ideals enough. There is a wide range from middle to far left and there is and will never be a candidate to satisfy everyone. Heck, there are Dems I voted for (for national offices) I didn’t like because, well, there was always more at stake. I’ve been lambasted many a time through the years for suggesting my vote was for SCOTUS rather than for ‘best fit my ideals.’ Now we are seeing the results of not knowing or not believing what all your vote can do. And liberal voters will never really learn and come together because there are large factions who think they know better and will just not yield. And the finger pointing and excuse making follows every defeat.

Clinton lost the Midwest because she didn't campaign there after she won the nomination.

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 But even before that, the problem is feeble candidates.Perhaps, but republicans run pedophiles and still get turnout. I'm not sure candidate quality is the issue either. As Smerf said, the right wing base is just so much more reliable.
