Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Hey ya'll, I haven't spent a lot of time in the Sports Bar here, but now I feel the need to. I am a closet binge watcher. Not really, I often tweet or facebook that I am finishing one show and need a new show to binge watch. I'm at that point right now. So I need your help. Let's make this a place to share thoughts (Without giving anything away) on which shows we recommend/encourage others to watch. Of course, we all have different tastes. I mean even I have different tastes from day-to-day and who to show. I've watched shows from Friday Night Lights to Quantum Leap to Beverly Hills 90210 to Breaking Bad to Ally McBeal to The Americans to... well, there have been a lot. I pretty much refuse to pay anything, so I'm looking for shows that are free on Amazon Prime, Hulu or Netflix. I just finished Season 6 of The Walking Dead. Season 7 has had 4-5 episodes, but since I'd have to pay for them, it stinks. On my current Watch List on Hulu are Pitch, This is Us, Drunk History, Law & Order SVU, and some other weekly shows. Some are great. Some are good. If they're not very good, I probably quit watching it a ways in. For instance, The Wire was great in Season 1. Season 2 was OK. Season 3 bored me and I quit watching. The Sopranos and Six Feet Under and Big Love are three older HBO shows that I couldn't miss at all. So, what are you watching? What do you recommend? Let's share our thoughts and discuss.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 There're a lot of suggestions in this thread: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/23904-fall-tv-2016/ There are also some individual threads if you scroll down. On this page are Stranger Things and Luke Cage. There have also been other threads discussing different things like 'The Robot.' No one has commented on one of my favorite shows right now, probably because it's on regular network tv, but 'Life in Pieces' has me out loud laughing every episode.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 You strike me as someone who might enjoy Longmire or Hell on Wheels, Seth. Not sure about the free availability.

Season one of True Detective and both seasons of Fargo are in the running for best individual seasons of any show as well.
ashbury Verified Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 FWIW, I find Drunk History fine in its small 30-minute doses. As one-trick ponies go, it's a very good trick, but I can't imagine binge watching it
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Parks and Rec is for sure worth the binge. There are so many outrageously funny moments in that show I'd go back and watch it all again. Ron Swanson is a treasure we should all enjoy.

Can't believe I got through that much. Sorry. Deadwood, I haven't been able to get through a second episode. It's the era that I really enjoy. I loved the mini-series from the late 70s, Centennial, and I love movies/shows from the mid-to-late 1800s, so I should like it. Breaking Bad was awesome.

I kind of hated the Movie (I even watched it again about a year ago to see if I missed something... still didn't like it). I'm looking forward to Season 2. Have to find it somewhere where it is free.

jimmer Verified Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 RomeRome was also great. Tudors was very good too.
flpmagikat Verified Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Oh man Friday night lights and six feet under are two of my favorites ever! But I'd second veep, no one has mentioned it but Orange is the New black is really entertaining and has a lot of interesting layers. Also American horror story gets a bad rep and for some good reasons, but I think the first season is still pretty good. And on that note American crime story I liked as well.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I'm four episodes into season three of Black Mirror. It's really good. It's an anthology, but not like the FX shows where each season is it's own story, in Black Mirror each episode is a self contained story, like The Twilight Zone. Actually now that I think about it, it's almost exactly like the Twilight Zone but with great production value and even more moral ambiguity. Fewer aliens and the sci-fi is more realistic as all of this technology does seem to be right around the corner.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Hmmm, thanks for the recommendation. So it's an Outer Limits sort of deal? Yes. Though the first episode was lacking most of the tech-driven sci-fi that every episode that follows dealt with. Episode one is really good though as it starts with what seems like a somewhat comical premise only for the snickers to come to a roaring halt once the ramifications of the plot really hit the viewer. Also, the first two seasons are only three episodes each, so it's not like it's a huge commitment.

I enjoyed Season 1 of American Horror Story most. Season 2 was OK. Season 3, I don't think I even finished. Season 4 was just weird (Freaks)... I actually enjoyed Season 5 (Hotel).
