From Press Release:

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that Thad Levine has been named the club’s Senior Vice President, General Manager.

“I’m thrilled to add Thad Levine to the Twins baseball operations leadership team,” said Twins Executive Vice President, Chief Baseball Officer Derek Falvey. “I couldn’t envision a better partner to help return championship-caliber baseball to Minnesota. Thad’s leadership and management experiences across all facets of baseball operations make him the perfect fit for the role, and I’m looking forward to executing our vision together.”

Levine, 44, has spent the last 11 seasons as the Assistant General Manager for the Texas Rangers after being appointed to that role in October of 2005.  He spent the previous six seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization, working as Senior Director of Baseball Operations in 2005, Director of Baseball Administration from 2002-04 and Assistant Director of Baseball Administration from 1999-2002. His career in baseball began with the Los Angeles Dodgers in business development in 1999.

“As I embark on what I hope to be the most impactful phase of my career, I would like to thank the Pohlad family, Derek Falvey, Dave St. Peter and the Minnesota Twins fans for giving me the opportunity to join the Minnesota Twins family,” Levine said.  “I am inspired to work for the Twins franchise, known as being one of the best organizations in all of professional sports due to the stalwart leadership of the Pohlad family, commitment of its loyal workforce, talent of its players and unflagging loyalty of its fans.”

As Assistant General Manager for the Rangers, Levine assisted President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jon Daniels in all areas of major league operations, including player acquisitions, roster composition, contract negotiations, statistical and financial analyses and also oversaw the Rangers international scouting department.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the owners of the Texas Rangers, Ray Davis, Bob Simpson, Neil Leibman, Ken Hersh and Brent Clum, as well as my dear friend and mentor Jon Daniels,” Levine added.

Levine has marketing experience with Coca-Cola, The Rockport Company and Reebok, Ltd.  Additionally, he served  on  the  Board  of  Directors  of  the  Sports  Challenge  Leadership  Academy and Texas Rangers Charitable Foundation, and was the Co-Founder of Meaningful Wins, a charity fantasy football organization. The Virginia native earned a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College in 1994 where he played baseball and earned a Masters of Business Administration from UCLA in 1999. Thad and his wife, Claudette, have two daughters, Greta (8) and Tess (4), and a son, Quinn (6).

It doesn't say what happened to Antony.  I would assume he is gone because it would be uncomfy with the new boss working with the old boss.

But either way the purge is starting!  Looking forward to more changes!

He has one year left on his contract, and his position will likely still exist in the org. My guess is that he has a job for another  year as they transition the new leaders.  I don't think you'll see a mass culling of FO types this offseason, though one or two might go...

What I do think is that you'll see some additional hires as Falvey/Levine bring in some of their guys.  Next year, you'll see a lot of contracts fall under the "not renewed" category and a few firings... that's how this stuff works, and that's how you do it if you want to maintain some continuity in the airport.

I get that you can't turn over every position in the first offseason.

But at the same time, this first offseason will be very important, it's when you start laying the foundation. Don't you think that Levine would want his own guy at assistant GM right away?

Per La Velle E Neal from the Startribune it sounds like Rob Antony will still be around.  Please see his article and the section I copied.

Falvey’s reshaping of the front office will take place. Rob Antony, who has filled in as interim General Manager when Terry Ryan was fired, will definitely have a role in the organization. That role will be announced fairly soon. Other front office roles will be defined. The futures of Mike Radcliff, VP of player personnel; Wayne Krivsky, special assistant to the GM; scouting director Deron Johnson; and minor league director Brad Steil and others will be determined. That also includes Ron Gardenhire, who returned to the Twins as a special assistant during the season.

He may, but you do too much of that and you get other real problems.  I think if he wants a couple of his guys, he creates new positions and moves them in.  He'll spend a year evaluating what worked and didn't, who is good and who isn't, and then start the firing/non-renewing of contracts.

Time to roll up the sleeves and get to work boys!

Not going to lie here. While I still think, initially, the biggest changes will be in the analytics, scouting and development areas, I'm very excited to see what changes are in store for our favorite team.

I don't have a problem with Antony being kept around. I never have. I've always read/heard he was good with detail stuff like contracts and the such. There is a role for guys like that.

I love this hire. From all I have read Thad seems like a very smart baseball mind. Here's hoping he can take this team in the right direction this offseason.

I wonder if one or both were in town to take in today's Vikings game?

That'd be a helluva way to start your tenure. Or maybe a fitting one.

They don't have time to watch a Vikings game.  GM meetings are this week.  Watching the Vikings game would be an utter waste of time.  At least that is how I felt about 3:30 this afternoon.
