Very cool! Did not know that about ol' Bill. From the trailer they had Hunter Pence hitting into a net, so hopefully there's a cool baseball related episode to watch in April!

Wow! The 'Legion' pilot was awesome.  It was weird (which I like) and a bit confusing (which makes sense when dealing with a character that has multiple personalities).  Well written and VERY well acted.

The Young Pope has been good.  Not great, but worth watching just for Law's fantastic portrayal.   Not sure I'll watch a season two, if it gets one.

Binge watched "Santa Clarita Diet" on Netflix this weekend. It was very good. Kind of hard to explain the premise of the show without spoiling it... I'll say it's almost like a female lead character version of Dexter.

My wife and I watched it too. Some really good laugh out loud moments. Walking Dead level of gore but a comedy. It was great.

 

Also, I am beyond bored of the angsty teen trope, however the daughter in this one somehow didn't get on my nerves like those stock archetypes typically do. Well done all around.

Because we should. Its pacing is problematic at times - so agonizingly slow, especially every scene with William Hurt - but Billy Bob delivers in a big way. He's the new Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson; he plays himself every time and it's fantastic.

 

I'm not done with the first season yet, still have two episodes left to go.

Because we should. Its pacing is problematic at times - so agonizingly slow, especially every scene with William Hurt - but Billy Bob delivers in a big way. He's the new Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson; he plays himself every time and it's fantastic.

I'm not done with the first season yet, still have two episodes left to go.

 

I only made it through two episodes of Goliath. I liked Billy Bob, but the law aspect had me shaking my head again. Right off the bat it was another show where lawyers have two jobs, their judicial duties plus of course they have to do all the detective work because the cops are incompetent and/or corrupt. I'm not a law expert, but shouldn't the conversation go like this:

 

Client: I know it was listed as a suicide, but I don't think So And So killed themselves!

Lawyer: Cool, why don't you go talk to a detective then come back to me when you have a case for wrongful death.

 

Also, maybe tables turned or plots thickened, but I'm kind of over having the bad guy unequivocally bad and spiteful. Maybe there was more that I didn't see but William Hurt seemed villainous for the sole purpose of making Billy Bob's job difficult.

Much like Nick, I only made it through 2 episodes as well. The pacing is definitely problematic and the key reason why I haven't continued the series... Does it get any better? Or are there agonizingly slow scenes throughout the series?

The agonizingly slow scenes continue through the series and are my biggest issue with the show.

 

I think the show remains pretty consistently solid throughout and the relationships are what keep me tuned in. Billy Bob and Brittany's relationship is particularly well done.

 

What I most appreciate about the show is how they do a good job of keeping the audience on its toes. Other than the monolithic evil terrible baddies, most of the twists and turns come out of left field and catch you completely unprepared. Even the actions of the baddies are often unexpected because you're rarely fully aware of exactly who's playing for what team.

 

It's not a show I'm particularly interested in seeing after this season is complete but for eight episodes of law intrigue, it does a pretty good job.

And has anyone kept up with The Expanse? I'm saving up the second season to binge watch but the first season was stellar, possibly the best sci-fi I've seen on TV since Battlestar.

I really love the Expanse.  But its not for everyone.  It's pacing can be somewhat slow and even confusing (there are several plot lines that take some time coalesce), but it is very much space opera in the vein of Battlestar (good writing, good acting, ambitious plot, excellent production).  So far, I've actually like the second season more than the first (the plot is moving forward at a much better pace); but I still find myself having to rewind because I missed some essential piece of dialogue.

The new version of Battlestar Galactica sure was very good.

Yeah, for a good portion of the first season, I don't think anything actually happened.

 

The weird thing is that I was okay with it. They nailed the environment and characters well enough that just watching the actors chew scenery kept me engaged when the plot lulled a bit.

In the golden age of TV where there's so many shows to keep up with, pacing and plot development is important IMO... When a show starts too slow, like Taboo and Goliath, it's tough to continue investing time in them when there are countless other shows to keep up with. 

I don't need a show to tie it all together in a pretty bow within 22 or 47 minutes. But having something happen is important. The thing that annoyed me about Taboo for example was it felt like a basketball game... All you had to do was show up for the last 5 minutes and something happened.

That was The Killing in a nutshell. Every episode was "tonight we point the finger at this suspect and tune in next week to watch us point the finger at someone else".

When a show starts too slow, like Taboo and Goliath, it's tough to continue investing time in them when there are countless other shows to keep up with.

While I understand why you didn't like Goliath, I don't get why you thought it started slowly. The end of the first episode was a doozy and blindsided me.

 

The pacing only became a problem as they continued to do the same thing over again with the William Hurt character... Every scene takes five minutes when one minute would have done the job with the same impact.

Yeah, how that show managed to get multiple seasons is one of mankind's great mysteries.

 

It started pretty well, but my god by midseason the first year it was a **** fest of red herrings, stupid writing, stupid characters, and nothing to like.  My wife and I bailed on that show and never looked back.  And we were all in the first few hours.

I went into Goliath wanting it to be both smart and realistic in terms of how the legal system and those within the profession worked. It wasn't terrible but it seemed like a John Grisham story with a genius do-it-all protagonist lawyer and an evil-beyond-reason villain. John Grisham stories weren't bad, and there was a reason all of them got made into movies, but I think I've been spoiled by TV lately, I wanted something different. Better.

 

Maybe my perspective was simply based on my mood as well.
