jimmer Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 The Crown, IMO, is better (it's GREAT) and it's the most expensive show Netflix ever had. Victoria, though I love it, doesn't have the production quality of The Crown had so it's less grand (and when watching a show about royalty, it's worth noting). Victoria is also more soap opera like. It's a very good story, but it's a step below The Crown. It's like like it's trying to combine Downton Abbey and The Crown. I am looking forward to them expanding on the story that was told in 'Young Victoria', with Emily Blunt and Paul Bethany (which I'd also recommend). What's awesome about both of these, though, is the acting itself. Top notch acting from both.

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 So many shows, so few hours to invest.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Clearly this didn't happen fall of 2016.....but we just finished season 9 of Dr. Who. Worst. Story. Arc. Evar. He'd to all that for Clara, but not River? Seriously? Plus, most of the episodes were pretty meh, at best. Partly I think I don't love this iteration of the Dr, partly I just think they got off track in terms of good stories.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I loved Dr Who through the first five seasons. I began to lose interest during the Matt Smith era. It was still okay and pretty watchable but by the time Capaldi came around, my interest had dropped to zero and I stopped watching it.

Vikings is so much better....
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Would it be asking too much for a return of Torchwood?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Would it be asking too much for a return of Torchwood? Still haven't finished that one. I enjoy it, but it doesn't compel me to watch it for some reason.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I like Vikings, without spoiling anything though, I hope recent developments in the story don't hurt the ratings and cause the show to go under, I suspect it could. I'm fine with how it's going, but I'm not sure how other viewers feel.

Vikings is so much better....There are simply too many good shows on television to keep up with mediocrity any more. For example, The Expanse is much better than anything I've seen from Doctor Who in years. Same goes for Westworld, pretty much anything from Netflix that isn't Travelers, and a slew of other shows I haven't even seen.

I was considering it because it had gotten good critical and audience reviews. However it looked like it had massive potential to be preachy and it also looked like the kind of show that might try to hard to hold the audiences hand instead of letting the viewers try to figure out what's going on.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Haven't watched the latest season yet. Well I hope my post didn't sound too ominous or anything. It just had lots of new characters added with lots of different storylines not all of which seem to have a lot of purpose, but maybe they are part of a bigger picture yet to be revealed. Not all of the characters are as compelling as the original main cast though and it's hard to tell if it's the characters or the actors. That's in regard to the back half of the season anyway, the first half was more similar to the previous seasons.

Not too ominous, I'm just too cheap to pay now, and it will be free on Amazon in a few months.....

It's not bad but I wouldn't call it great. It's decent but kinda forgettable (thus far anyway). If you have the time, go ahead and watch it but don't go out of your way to do so.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 On the bright side, Ironfist is a little over a month away.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 In case you missed it (somehow), Legion in 2 days
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 In case you missed it (somehow), Legion in 2 days If only I had access to that channel....
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 If only I had access to that channel.... I'm pretty hyped for it. And the fact that Fox thew like 12 slots behind it tells me they believe in it too. Let's make the X-men great again!
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I'm looking forward to it. I only hope that the effort put into this show doesn't negatively impact Fargo season three since both programs have the same show runner.

Agreed, I'd watch it anyway for X-nostalgia, but with Noah Fawley attached? That's a dream come true. Only thing that could make it better is if it was centered on Magneto or something, but i'm guessing he has something absolutely awesome planned with this.

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I had no idea Hawley was attached to Legion. Yes, please.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 wait wut omgI also did not know Hawley was attached to Legion. That alone will draw me to tune in, even though X-Men isn't really my thing. Hawley is approaching Coen Brothers territory, where if their name is attached to it, I'm giving it a chance.

I see he wrote Bones but other than Fargo, I don't think I've seen anything he wrote. But his run on Fargo is enough to get me to tune in.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Sci-Fi fans (even fans of Stranger Things) should out Netflix's The OA. Was surprised by how much we liked it; binged the whole season in two days.
