In general, I'm not looking for exceptional when I'm watching television. I'm watching for entertainment, so if you can get me to invest in characters or make me laugh, I'll probably return. Shows like Big Bang Theory, SVU, Criminal Minds, and NCIS have had my investment in character(s) in the show, so I still watch them. Of course, I still have Arrow and Flash that I record each week.

 

One show not mentioned on here (I don't think) was Gotham, and I am disappointed in this season after two solid seasons of the show. There's enough to keep me coming back, but I'll not continue going forward if the show doesn't go somewhere better over this season.

I thought the flawed planning of Gotham caused it to rapidly descend into absurd stupidity before the end of season 1. It has managed to become a campier, more farcical version of Batman than the glorious Adam West version.

Except only one version was actually going for campy and farce and it wasn't Gotham.

 

I like how they've developed certain characters, but the story arc in season 2 went down hill in a hurry and season 3 is down right bad.

They never had an endgame.  And then it became "villain cameo of the week" for cheap thrills.  The Fish/Penguin storyline was a complete fiasco.  And when I check on it they seem to still have that going on?

Kind of. She has been sort of bumped out for a few weeks now, but they seem to bring her back in. Penguin rising to prominence in a legitimate way in Gotham could be handled so well.

It's what I thought, early on, they were doing.  And then it veered so badly off the tracks it was hard to believe.  It should have been a slow build for Penguin building his criminal element and his role as Gotham's most legitimate mobster.  Instead....we got this @^*%-fest.

I feel your pain. I missed basically the entire first run of Seinfeld; while my childless friends were chortling about being masters of their domain, I wasn't even master of my domicile.

My wife and I clutch to our Sunday nights of John Oliver, Westworld, Thrones, TWD and carved out time for Fargo and Better Call Saul, but we have to make a determined effort every time.

 

I can quote some Blaze and the Monster Machine episodes almost word for word though.  If that has any value.

I am convinced the next life is going to be one crazy trip, based on the kinds of things we are being programmed to memorize in this life in preparation for it. Agreed.  The past two episodes have really pushed the narrative forward without diminishing depth or world-building.  

 

I still don't see how they get more than one or two seasons out of this, but I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts.

I said the exact same thing to my wife.  This can't be more than a two season run.  But I like the idea of a show knowing its story and telling it, even if it is short lived.

 

But yes, the last two episodes have continued to plant really interesting bread crumbs.  I'm fully invested in this show.

Westworld is what my wife and I are using as our bridge to Thrones.  

 

We're sorting of doing that with the Walking Dead, but that show is losing me.  I think it already lost my wife.  She's hate watching now.

It's the most expensive TV series produced at $130 million. Definitely adding this one to the list.
