Just wondering if any team has claimed Milone off waivers yet, and when is last day of waivers as well.

Believe he is already in Rochester.

Yes, Milone went unclaimed and accepted the assignment to AAA.

Actually, it was "an offer he couldn't refuse" :)

Given his service time and the fact it was his first time being outrighted, he had to accept it.

Fien had been outrighted previously, so he would have had the right to accept or refuse had he not been claimed.

would have been nice to get out of the remaining part of his $4.5M contract if they have lost faith in him.

Why?

That money would go straight into Jim Pohlads pocket.

The Twins do not carry extra money over to the next year.

Think that should put into perspective how the rest of the league values Milone? 29 other teams didn't want him for that price in ANY role. So please, do not bring him back up as anything more than a spot starter or reliever, even if he carves up AAA hitters as lefties with his profile often do.

Not necessarily. He had no options left so he would have needed to stay on someone's 25 man roster. Most teams at this point haven't gone through their own pitching depth as they may not have called up all their AAA backups yet. There may have been teams interested in having him sit at AAA but he would have needed to clear waivers. Fien was claimed but he was also optioned to AAA shortly after.

At this point Milone has 'additional' trade value versus a week ago, in that he can be traded without the receiving team needing to have an open roster spot to stash him. However at this point he has just as much value to the Twins as depth without needing to have him on the roster.

Milone is pitching for the Red Wings tonight. One run in four innings. Rochester leads 7-1 in the fourth. BTW, Buxton has two hits and has brought his BA over .300.

While it is true that Fien could've refused the assignment if he went unclaimed, due to his service time he would've forfeited his salary as well.

Yes, true. My point was, Milone didn't "accept" the assignment as the other poster claimed -- he had no choice in the matter.

Fien probably would have accepted but at least would have had the option to decline, although as you state, not without cost since he has less than 5 years service time.
