Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson would struggle to compete with what is happening today on that side of the infield. 

I agree about Brooks (Arenado is just wow), but I still think Ozzie is the best I have ever seen.

Sadly, I did not realize this was a "joke" at first and actually thought about fish with nutella and just the thought of that combo was not good for the stomach.  Although if you put it on a stick it would probably sell at the fair.

Brooks wouldn't even be the best defensive third baseman on the O's.

I think Ozzie is thought of that way because he was the only one doing that stuff in the 70's. He stood out... there was nobody in the same room as Ozzie. 

 

But... My God... they are all doing the stuff Ozzie did now. All those SS's you listed... They are all Ozzie Smith like in my opinion. 

 

And Arenado... Along with Lawrie when he played 3rd... and Machado... 

 

My jaw drops so often that I've become a permanent mouth breather.

I sometimes wonder, though, was defense just as good then and we didn't know it because we got much fewer games, saw way fewer highlights, etc?  I mean, we had the game of the week and Braves games on TBS.  Way less exposure to what was going on around the league.

Gotta hand it to the Twins.    Bad bullpen?    You can reduce the blown save percentage to pretty much zero if you don't turn a lead over to a reliever.
