Ricky Nolasco versus Jose Ramirez - The last time Ricky Nolasco faced Jose Ramirez this happened:

To quote Ricky, "He'll get his. Don't worry." Today, if Ramirez pinch-hits we might get a chance to see how well Ricky Nolasco's memory serves him.

Team Spirit - This is not something that we have gotten much of a chance to see this year, with Arcia trying to carry the team on his back and Joe Mauer carrying as much of the load as he can, but it seems like the rest of the Twins are worried about being safe at home. We need to see more of this:

Michael Brantley - Cleveland got back their star left fielder yesterday when he had a pinch-hit fly out, but his .000 average is unsustainable for a hitter who has as good of a swing as Brantley. Brantley will start in left today, which will be his 809th game. Brantley was the PTBNL in the CC Sabathia trade, and has been the only player to exceed expectations from that trade. Brantley came from the 2005 draft class, in which the Brewers also drafted Jake Arrieta, and the Natives drafted Tim Lincecum.

The Indians - Cleveland has built their team in an amazing way, making minor trades for later draft picks. Yan Gomes was a 10th round pick by the Blue Jays, Corey Kluber was a 4th round pick by the Padres, Jason Kipnis was a 2nd round pick by the Natives, Brantley was a 7th round pick by the Brewers. Danny Salazar, Carlos Carrasco, and Carlos Santana also were acquired in team friendly deals.

Game Thread Volunteers - I volunteered on such short notice it did not give me much time to be inspired to write this thread, so I advise everybody who reads the game threads to volunteer for more threads so this does not happen again. Also, volunteer ahead of time, so you can be prepared to write it.

You're slipping, brother. 27 minutes late.

However, I commend you on your choice of alias for the opponent.

And why is that?

And why is that?

Is this a moment where I'm supposed to say, "My bad"? I guess "Native Americans" might have been more appropriate. I may be wrong, but I don't think "American Indian" is the preferred terminology anymore ... and anyway, Native Americans/American Indians may be more American than I am (but maybe not because then people whose families have been here 200+ years longer than mine and were the main offenders when it comes to the oppression of Native Americans would be more American than I), but the Indians (team) certainly are not more American than the Twins. Referring to Cleveland as the American Indians has the potential to induce some misunderstandings about why we aren't the American Twins.

From what I've read, and who knows if this has changed, I don't think there is consensus on what's better or worse ... American Indians, Native Americans, First Nation peoples, Indigenous Peoples? I think the preference is to use the actual tribe name. But to just use 'Natives?' I don't know ... just strikes me as ... not quite right, either. But I don't know. Can o' worms discussion perhaps so let's not get into it in a game thread. But if anyone out there is of a specific tribe ... is there a preferred usage? Just curious.

This thread is off to a rip roaring start :)

It's the calm before the ... whatever tomorrow will bring, with Berrios pitching his first game in the majors! :)

That would be perfect if Chief was in the picture, too, chipping away at a rock to create the first wheel.

Moments later...

Are we sure the Indians are Native Americans and not a better man than I am, Gunga Din?

Look, I want to see Nolaco do well tonight, and to watch a Twins victory.... Buuuut, can it be Wednesday night already?! Berrios' first start is going to be appointment TV.

CC to Hrbowski and birdwatcher: Today is National Audubon Day! From my understanding he is the Babe Ruth of bird watching. Feel free to raise your binoculars in celebration!

Epic bat flip in front of the Twins dugout...

And that's bad?

(Okay, if we're already going off track with the 'Natives' discussion, might as well throw this into the mix, too.)

Not at all. Baseball can be very silly at times to explain why players get upset.

I agreed with the sentiment. Their actual name doesn't sit well with me nor the football team in the capital city. I'm good with bringing any kind of negative attention to these teams' continued obstinance due to their true loyalty to the dollar.
