I wonder if anybody is thinking about the serious regression Byron Buxton is heading for... because his BABIP is not sustainable.

I had no idea about Givens' back story as a converted infielder. That has to be pretty rare over the last 30-40 years, right?

The poor man's F-Rod, Frankie Rodriguez.  Middle infielder turned middling pitcher.

Had forgotten he managed a 206 inning season at age 23.  His 1996 5.05 ERA was good for an ERA+ of exactly 100, and his 3 CG's were not only one more than the entire Twins staff managed in 2016, it was just one less than the 2016 AL team average.  And he somehow managed to throw in 2 saves for good measure.

Driving through Indiana seems like a great idea. Stopping on the other hand does not! :)

Gary is beautiful this time of year!

He owned a crappy bar/club here in NYC for a couple years, I remember going with Nick N several years ago and meeting him, it was....an interesting place.

Ahh Dick and Bert. Dick makes the point about Mauer pulling a pitch and Bert trashes the idea. "Mauer pulling a pitch? NEVER!"

Did he test positive for steroids!?!??!?!?

It's medicinal, prescribed for whiplash...

And Brach makes the easy decision to walk Mauer to put Sano up to bat as the go ahead run.......

He is the world's first two outcome player.
Strikeout or double.

Because of Lake Michigan and the sheer size of Chicago.

I'm pretty sure that extreme NW Indiana would have to be the busiest portion of the state.

You'd think the state would try to fix it up a little.

You know... Plant some flowers... or something. Maybe hire a landscaper or two.

I'm watching the Orioles home broadcast and they ran a stat line on Mauer which said that he hit .365 when in a full count last season.

Approximately .350 with RISP, .365 with the count full--and yet a .265 hitter. How queer baseball is

OK

Being down 4-2 isn't ideal

However... This year... I feel like the Twins could legitimately score in any part of the batting order.

Plouffe, Rosario and Park sounds like runs to me.

So does... Escobar, Suzuki and Buxton.

And Mauer is a bit out of the ordinary as well.  While it's a very different situation from 3-2, he accomplished the fairly unusual feat of going nearly three years without swinging at a 3-0 pitch.  When he finally did, Fangraphs found it worthy of an article.

You made your point like Gene Rayburn would have.

Frankie got demoted to the bullpen the last month or so of 96, where he got the two saves.  He was still the Twins pitcher of the year for that season though when they did their awards.  Much like the last few years, having to rush guys like him, Latroy, Milton, etc met with pretty mixed results.  Frankie will always be one of my favorite Twins though.  But I also enjoyed Koskie hitting a grand slam off him against Seattle after Frankie had said some negative things after being let go by the Twins.

Let's not forget one Joe Nathan debuting a 20 year old shortstop before becoming a pitcher two years later!
