  1. IIRC, the fun part of his hitting streak in every game he played was that it was multiple pinch hitting appearances, not just his debut. That shrinks the odds of keeping it quite a bit. But just him finally making it to the show was a great accomplishment in perseverence.
  2. RIP When he coached first base for the St. Paul Saints after his Twins career, my brother and I had a chance to chat with him before they played in Sioux City. He loved talking baseball and I think he'd have talked to us for an hour had he not had a game to coach! Very generous with his time for a couple young fans and left an indelible impression.
  3. Always enjoyed Bert, and I'd imagine it's his decision to retire. I loved that he wasn't afraid to critique the Twins players instead of just being a homer like most.
  4. Don't think I'd put Ben Revere on the list, but Lew Ford deserves consideration. And Bartolo by the time he was a Twin.
  5. Great catch by Cave. If he'd pretended he didn't catch it for a couple seconds instead of holding it up to show he did, he probably could've doubled them off.
  6. When is the last time a Twin walked four guys in one inning? Liriano probably did it at some point. That was a Phil Hughes or Carlos Silva season's worth.
  7. With two Aussies on the current roster I was curious how many players from there have made the majors. Turns out only 32 have made it, and 9 have actually played for the Twins at least one game. Grant Balfour has been the most successful with the Twins, but they've also had Liam Hendriks, Glenn Williams, Luke Hughes, James Beresford, Justin Huber, and Brad Thomas. In addition Michael Nakamura was really from Australia, but born in Japan so doesn't quite fit this list. Trent Oeltjen was signed by the Twins and made it to AAA before leaving and making it elsewhere. And Ryan Rowland-Smith was the Twins' Rule V pick in 2004, but was returned to the Mariners and eventually made the bigs. Also, Joe Quinn was the only Australian born player prior to 1986, playing 17 seasons (still the record for an Australian) from 1884-1901 and played his final year as a Washington Senator. So maybe it was destiny a century ago that the eventual Twins would tap into the outback. The Brewers did have Dave Nillson and Graeme Lloyd years back at the same time, so they probably have quality over quantity compared to the Twins.
  8. And 200 RBIs, look out Hack Wilson!
  9. Probably have to leave some room for any makeup games since every game could be three times as important. Unfortunately, the rain isn't going to have any extra sympathy when it comes to trying to squeeze the season into it's already tight schedule.
  10. 2005 they started 36-24, but only won 83 games and the White Sox won the division and World Series.
  11. Dan Serafini Jason Maxwell Marcus Jensen Danny Ardoin Jay Canizaro Warren Morris Javier Valentin That turn of the millennium era is full of guys to fill a list like this.
  12. I like Leius and Lawton, but would go with Coomer and Cordova over them.
  13. I was a Shane Mack fan even as a Padre just because he had a 1985 Topps card with the Olympic Team. When he joined the Twins I was ecstatic even though I had no clue if he was actually good or not. Looks like he only played 20 games at AAA in 1989, so maybe the Padres gave up on him because of injuries. Lucky for the Twins, one of several Rule V gems they've found over the years.
  14. I might put Roger Erickson in there in place of Williams based on his 80s numbers, better ERA and Ks. Although his 14 win season came as a rookie in '78, so his W-L record wasn't too great for the 80s.
  15. I've always enjoyed that Lou Collins and Mike McGrevey have their jerseys displayed on the wall of Dorn's office in Major League 3 when he's the Twins GM. Fun movie crossover continuity.
  16. Damn 1994 strike, Kirby would've broke that team record going away. He had 112 in the 108 games he played with 49 left for the team. Could've hit poorly the last two months and still got 29 RBIs. Same with Knoblauch and the doubles record, he almost certainly gets 60 doubles if they finish the year.
  17. Kirby was going to get to bat cleanup that year. Considering Molitor and Knoblauch both batted .346 and Cordova drove in 111 runs knocking them in, Kirby probably gets at least 130 if he played. IIRC he had two hits off Greg Maddux in his final spring game. Maybe they play .500 ball and the franchise gets turned around a bit earlier than 2001.
  18. Twins also need 27 runs these final four games to have the highest runs per game average in franchise history (1936 Senators). Guessing they come up short but could still have one more double digit game left.
  19. Twins have 27 steals on the year with one today, the next fewest amount by a Twins team was 32 in 1963 (same team that had the home run record previously). Can they steal six more in three plus games with a piranhas lineup? Three Senator teams did steal less, so it's not a franchise low.
  20. Rocco manages a lot like Billy Heywood too.
  21. I don't have any of them, but I'd proudly wear a Pat Meares, Frankie Rodriguez, or Dan Serafini jersey.
  22. Ryan LaMarre has now hit as many home runs as a Twin as he has given up on the mound. Which he gave up to future then and past now Twin, Tyler Austin.
  23. That would be a record, 12 teams have had four 30 home run hitters. 1977 Dodgers 1995 Rockies 1996 Rockies 1997 Rockies 1997 Dodgers 1998 Braves 1999 Rockies 2000 Angels 2000 Blue Jays 2004 Cubs 2006 White Sox 2009 Phillies Twins have 3 down and 2 close, Dodgers have 3 down and 1 close, Red Sox and Astros both have 2 down and 2 close.
