  1. I'm presuming even if he slumps in June, he's done enough to earn a spot on the team, especially with Gardy on the coaching staff. But do you think he starts if Weiters wins the vote and can't play? He's actually fourth in voting, having passed AJ, which is surprising to see he's getting some respect. Now I know half the folks here want him to fail so Pinto can play, so they will be disappointed and want Pinto to start the All-Star game too . The funny part is if Pinto produced at all when he did get to play everyday there for awhile, his numbers might be deserving to get him on the team too because the competition is pretty weak. Wonder if any team has ever had both catchers make the same all-star team?
  2. That was an interesting way for Arcia to rack up another outfield assist in this series. Now can we finish a rally against Tanaka?
  3. Nice to see Correia get some breaks his way. He's still got a long ways to go to overcome the Colabello effect (in right field) that killed his ERA in April. But his FIP is almost identical to Gibson and much better than Nolasco, so hopefully things even out eventually. Too many people putting his couple bad starts in May with his bad luck the first month, and chalking it up as him being poor all year.
  4. So I said it before the San Diego start and he won, but forgot to his last start. Complete game shutout for Corriea?
  5. OK, I like this Yankee Stadium place when we hit the home runs.
  6. He pinch ran last night, and took BP today.
  7. Hammer looks healthy for the first time in forever. Nice to see a legit power hitter again, and he's even moving better in left field.
  8. He mentioned that but it was more tongue in cheek that he thought Suzuki would appreciate not having to get beat up. He expounded that they thought it would help sharpen him behind the plate with Deduno being a little more wild and you can't just hold your glove in one spot and expect him to hit the target.
  9. I haven't heard anything about Deduno wanting Pinto as his catcher, I can't imagine any pitcher would choose Pinto over Suzuki to call his game at this point. Gardy likes Pinto catching Deduno because he has to stay sharp every pitch instead of losing focus and getting complacent. I like Pinto's home runs, but he's not hitting for a high average or driving in runs. Bases loaded yesterday, no one out, and he taps out to the pitcher. Take advantage of chances when they are given, and you earn your time. I can't believe you'd want Suzuki to slump? But I guess I wanted them to sign Suzuki to start with since I expected Pinto to be at AAA to start the year, and I fully expect him and Pinto to be our catchers for another couple years after this so I don't look at Suzuki as "not part of our future" that people are hanging their hats on.
  10. Maybe settle for Dubel(s) on a regular basis then.
  11. There is our two out extra base hit! Wow he crushed that. It was bat flip worthy.
  12. Well thanks to the double play line out, we only went 0-2 that inning with RISP, instead of the 0-3 we would've gone without. So there's that. I've never seen so many infield line outs by the Twins as this year. Every game seems to have a couple of rockets. Maybe it's all the shifting teams are doing but probably just bad luck.
  13. It didn't work out this time, and thanks defense for lazily getting that ball in and letting the third run in, but Deduno is the one guy I almost expect to load the bases and get out of it unscathed. But he's also the guy that could get two outs on two pitches and have six straight guys reach before the third out. Either way he's fun to watch pitch. With our offense lately, our pitchers have no margin for error. A "quality start" is just a one run loss until the hitters start hitting with runners on base again. Maybe today's the day.
  14. He's actually with the Sioux City Explorers, not Sioux Falls.
  15. And they've already sort of committed to Pinto catching Deduno regularly to help his progression. Now if they can figure how to make Nolasco click.
  16. I'll second WNAX. I'm only in Sioux City so not too far away from Yankton, and SC finally picked up the Twins themselves, but I still listen to the WNAX station out of tradition. And the SC station gets preempted sometimes for high school football.
  17. He now joins the exclusive club with Jason Tyner, Al Newman, and Tom Kelly. To think he just missed an inside the parker over a 1000 plate appearances ago. And he took just a few more than Alex Cole did before his first, and he ended up jacking four of those for the Twins in '94 with another in '95. Still pretty cool and shocking to see that along the bottom line moments before Beltre and Soria gave us the game.
  18. Making Scott Baker look like Walter Johnson, or at least Yu Darvish.
  19. Not being tied to steroids helps his case. I think he'll get to 3000 and make it moot, but a ring would probably seal it regardless. Probably not first ballot though without a World Series, but at least within three years.
  20. Just read that Hicks has talked to Gardy and officially given up hitting left handed, but they can't send him to AAA to work on hitting righties. So today will be day one of that experiment. Rich Becker had a great season in 1996 after he quit switch hitting and never had to go to the minors in the process, so maybe it won't make a difference. But it does give a good excuse to send him down when Fuld comes back even after his minor success since his pep talk a couple weeks ago.
  21. He isn't in the lineup today, so I'd expect him to get sent out. Nunez is a better hitter than him, and bad Nunez utility defense is still better than good Colabello utility defense. Fun story for April, but for whatever reason he just stopped making contact and it didn't even seem like the pitchers pitched him differently. But I think back to his sinking line drive in Chicago that was played into a bases clearing double that first series or his infield grounder in Cleveland that was ruled a 2-run single, and you just knew that luck wasn't going to continue. Just wish Kubel wouldn't have turned into a .250 singles hitter during the same timeframe. But it doesn't mean he won't get another chance down the road, just has to find his confidence again. He looks defeated when he steps up the plate these last couple weeks. Just a question of how many pitches to strikeout.
  22. I think the early walks were as much about the cold weather as anything else. That and teams finally started throwing strikes to get ahead. Last year we chased bad pitches consistently, so you could throw it anywhere and still get ahead. That changed, but the staring at strike three over and over and over is what has to change now.
  23. If TBA is shorthand for Pedro Florimon, I bet they let him bat as often as he wants.
  24. They aren't going to DFA Fuld, but neither Fuld nor Presley is a real, actual, bona fide CFer either. Fuld has 91 of 320 games in the outfield in center. Presley has 46 of 237 (and 28 were with the Twins). Mastro was a true CF, but you can't steal first so he was expendable.
