  1. Correct on Correia, but I think Pelfrey still has an option left. So when his three weeks rehab assignment is up, just burn the last option to stash him at Rochester until a better solution comes up.
  2. Correia has four quality starts out of nine. He has the same amount of quality starts as Nolasco and Gibson have, but the bullpen has cost him a couple wins. He had a couple terrible games and one other that looked terrible on paper because the defense was terrible, but weren't charged with errors. He deserves every chance to pitch through things after the leash they gave Pelfrey. If they can trade him, fine, but he doesn't deserve to be released by any stretch. Pelfrey still has an option IIRC. When his rehab is done, just keep him in Rochester like they did with Arcia until someone gets hurt, or traded. He shouldn't be anywhere near the team when they are still around .500 unless he earns it. The money they wasted on him is gone either way, and if it's paying him to stay in Rochester until he can show he's a big league pitcher again, so be it. And I think Colabello will get sent down when it's necessary. At this point he's gone as long bringing nothing to the table as he did when he was on his hot streak. Kubel has been slumping as well, but at least he mixes in a hit and catches the balls hit to him.
  3. Well that should make Zuke feel better after the rough game he's had this evening, especially if we pull out the win. I do miss the inside-the-park HRs in the Metrodome though. Still remember ESPN televising the game in 1997 when they retired Kirby's jersey. McGwire blasted a 450 ft homer to center, Rich Becker popped up a 250 ft homer to short center. Classic Metrodome. Correction: it was Pat Meares with the ITPHR. But Becker and Roberto Kelly also hit them that year at the Dome.
  4. Looks like two great plays on that one. Nice to see Hicks get a good bunt down for once, just wish they'd have botched it somehow. Come on Pinto.
  5. Plus, TC is a southpaw, "they ought to outlaw southpaws" (Rocky II). And the chicken has to be nearing social security at this point.
  6. Molitor and Steinbach only played in the AL, so they could never understand the intricacies of the double switch. We must rely on Gardy's time with the Mets and Bruno's short time with the Cardinals to survive this week's "strategery". If Gardy gets kicked out, we may inadvertently end up with Herrmann having to pitch and Swarzak in at catcher. It'll be complete anarchy, but we'll know who to blame.
  7. You are giving him way too much credit. No way he'd have thrown that many pitches yet with his time between pitches with guys on base (to his credit he is faster without guys on base, but that would require a guy actually not being on base). That along with a catcher visit, a pitching coach visit, and let's toss a three minute replay review of some kind because I'm already annoyed by how long they take.
  8. So Correia with a complete game shutout tonight?
  9. Plouffe! Glad to see some hits evening out for him after he had some bad luck on hard hit balls a week ago.
  10. Way to bounce back Perk, and GREAT job by Kurt Klutch blocking that one in the dirt with the guy on third!
  11. Tommy Watkins hit .357 in 32 career at bats. Glenn Williams hit .425 in 40. Small sample sizes are just that. Why don't we see if Santana can keep it up for a month. I do agree he'll be the starting shortstop next year, but I'm not ready to give him the job based on one week where he's already suffering from hamstring issues the last two days.
  12. I'm optimistic about him because he's only 25 and hit last year in AAA, winter ball, and now this season so far. I'm pessimistic because he got off to this same hot start last season (albeit minus the extra base hits) for us, got to start regularly in the middle of May, struggled mightily at that point, and then got sent back down to AAA. If he doesn't repeat his collapse from last year, he might be a keeper. But we'll see how the next month goes.
  13. Ortiz' second half of 2002 was every bit what he's done since he left. He was pretty good in 1998 as a rookie when he broke his wrist and then didn't get a chance in 1999 with Mienkiewicz winning the spot. Ortiz went 0 for 20 when he was called up in September that year. Then he was back full time in 2000 as the DH.
  14. Three different innings ending with a backwards K with runners in scoring position. That's the Twins we know and love.
  15. Why don't we wait and see who gets hurts between now and when either Willingham or Arcia gets called up. I think Tonkin goes down when Fuld gets back, and wait and see on Santana/Hicks before the next guy if everyone stays healthy.
  16. I wonder how many people remember that David Ortiz was named Baseball America's best defensive first baseman in 1997 when he was at New Britain.
  17. Only on fastballs. Boring and fascist.
  18. Just send him down when Fuld comes off the DL.
  19. 5 former or current shortstops in our starting lineup. What will Bert say about the best athletes on the field?
  20. I'd probably stick with the Twins (or Vikings too) even if they moved. I did stick with the Stars in the move to Dallas so they're still my NHL team. Had the Wild started within a couple years of the move, I'd probably have jumped to them, largely because Jon Casey (my favorite player on the North Stars) got traded from the Stars the off season they moved and would've been a good excuse to switch. If the Twins got contracted and I had to pick a new MLB team, I'd probably go with the Yankees, Royals, or Rockies.
  21. The runner at second would've been safe even if Dozier didn't drop it, so just an error on the throw (in the direction of) home. Really on Santana for not just making the play at first, Torii isn't really a burner down the line at this point.
  22. Great win! We are undefeated with Nunez in the starting lineup, must be some of that Yankee magic infiltrating the team along with Hughes. And if Hughes isn't careful he may end up pitching over the All-Star break. Maybe getting out of NY actually will see him catch back up to his original hype.
  23. I don't know if this whole shortstop thing will work out for Santana, but he already throws harder than our entire starting rotation. Great double play there.
  24. Always wanted Denny Hocking to play all 9 positions in one game back in 1999 or 2000.
  25. Brian Dozier 2B Kurt Suzuki C Trevor Plouffe 3B Chris Colabello 1B Jason Kubel LF Eduardo Nunez DH Chris Parmelee RF Aaron Hicks CF Daniel Santana SS (Phil Hughes P) Should be a great day of Grapefruit League baseball with that group! Actually I like moving Suzuki back to the two spot until Mauer gets back.
