Reusse on the Twins

I will admit to being a Reusse apologist, but he certainly mixes in some bad stuff with the good, like any writer.

I can read Reusse but I certainly can't listen to him....

I would hope not. I listen to sports talk radio solely for the entertainment aspect, and hope those that do listen are like me, and don't listen to it as gospel.

Maybe Reusse encounters these 10% of folks from his radio show, I'm not sure. I prefer the KFAN show style of entertainment with sports sprinkled in instead of sports talk all the time on 1500 ESPN.

I really like the Common Man, that is perfect "sports talk" radio IMO. He doesn't try to be a know it all and keeps things very light and entertaining.

PA is ok. Just way too much of a homer for my taste.

You're probably right. The complaint perhaps should be aimed at the Strib still running it with that stupidly misleading headline, but really with the Strib, take a number.

Michael Russo is one of the few things the Strib does right these days. Lavelle as well.

I feel kinda bad for Russo actually, he should be doing some national work IMO

I don't have a problem with them ignoring the RHP market. Between May, Duffey, Burdi, and Meyer, there's enough RHP upside to adequately fill the pen (or at least cross your fingers and hope it works out, the talent is certainly there).

But not picking up a real lefty solution is a problem for me.

Fair enough.  Of course, I also want May and Duffey (and Meyer) to be options to start if needed, and Burdi won't make the roster for opening day.  And I also want to have the flexibility to deal/drop Jepsen and Fien within the next year too.

I can understand preferring a lefty, but not liking any of the lefties on the market -- Sipp, Bastardo, Perez, and Blevins are the only FA LHRP to sign MLB deals this winter.  Would have liked to see some genuine bidding on Bastardo, but I could understand if they didn't like him for some reason. Off the top of my head, Chapman and Justin Wilson are the main LHRP trades, which were more complicated deals than, say, the Benoit salary dump.

But not liking any of the RP available this winter via FA or trade, with our bullpen as currently constituted, seems inexcusable.

Agreed. I've mentioned it a few times but I'm not that hard to please. There are plenty of things I disagree with but am intrigued enough with the move to still be interested in it and what it signifies to the roster. Park and Murphy fall into this category.

But I really struggle with "nothing".

Yeah it's pretty much garbage, and a big reason why Reusse and the majority of his counter parts are on the way out. Print dying is ultimately going to be one of the best things to ever happen to sports journalism without a doubt.

Because the standards for publication on the internet are so much higher?

Agreed. Common Man is the only one I'll go out of my way to podcast his show. The Power Trip Morning show I listen to for 20 minutes while I get ready in the morning. The rest I don't listen to.

Best talk radio available (sports or otherwise)? Classical and jazz. Thank me later.

And Minnesota Twins Whine Line. The best sports radio show not on the radio!

Reusse is retiring after this year, correct?  Can't come soon enough... now if we can just find out a way to get him to bring Souhan with him.

Really? I'll believe it when I see it. Why give up the cushy seat in the press box for Twins games? I figured he was going to be the next Sid Hartman and will give up the notepad when someone pries it from his cold, dead hands.

He definitely talked retirement at end of 2016, but I don't recall if it was from the Strib, 1500am, or both

Speaking of whom, has anyone heard Sid lately?  I've caught him on WCCO a couple times and it was painful to listen to, and this is from someone who was charmed by his "grumpy old man mixing up names" thing in recent years.  His speech is just so slow and odd, you're almost expecting him to have a medical emergency on the air.  I know he's sports reporter royalty in this town, but I hope he ride into the sunset in print form rather than on the airwaves.

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to Sid. I have fond memories of listening to the Sports Huddle with Sid and Dave on Sunday mornings whenever my family would road trip to grandma and grandpa's, or driving back from a hockey/baseball tournament. Dave Mona's a saint for assisting Sid on that show for so many years. It was getting painful to listen to Sid's speech 4-5 years ago, couldn't imagine what it'd be like today.

I for one enjoy listening to Ruesse and will miss it when he retires, as he told me he was going to. I find him entertaining.

As far as Buxton starting, there are those of us down here who don't feel he deserves it, but can see the Twins hope in a couple of months he can learn to hit.  I hope so, as he's a blast to watch in the outfield. But if he's still hitting .190 when June comes around, then what? As Ruesse says, if he could learn to hit the ball 40 feet, he'd be fine.

I think Reusse is hilarious!  And the more I think of it, Buxton starting in CF makes a lot of sense.  Just look to the right at the 265 lbs guy.  1st time in the outfield, too.

Ha. I agree that there isn't a whole lot to take Ryan to task over, on the other hand, I don't think there's a lot to take the fans to task over either, and Reusse did.

--Several complaints rolled in about Ryan not being grilled properly.

“About what?’’ I had to ask a radio colleague.

He said: “They are mad the Twins didn’t sign Zack Greinke.’’

Have to admit, I didn’t realize that was a controversy. I spend way too much time in the real world.--

Oh, really? Some fans wanted Greinke and didn't understand the realities of the situation? Shocking, surely the other 28 teams who didn't get Greinke had no such fans.

This kind of stuff frustrates me, and it's why I can't listen to Dan Barreiro or read many op-eds anymore. In a country where getting 60% of the votes for president is a landslide, you get yellow journalists taking one of the few topics that 90% of people agree with or at least understand, and act like the 10% are some huge intolerable majority who need to be put in their place with their unique wisdom.

This Greinke bit needed to be included in this article just as much as the crazy guy on the corner screaming about aliens needed to be included, yet for some reason the Greinke stuff is the title of his article.

The thing is that 60% is not necessarily too much in an election, but 10% is in the case of Greinke.

Looks like CCO is going to ride him until he's six feet under. I've listened to Sid for 40 years, starting with his sports hero show. His mind is still good but saying a sentence is -- tough. My wife said he sounded like he was talking underwater -- after I berated her for disrespect we had a good chuckle... And its really ironic, he advertises for Starky hearing aids -- and can't hear the questions!!! Yikes!!!
