Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Almost to the end; but no spoilers yet. Just two things; Krysten Ritter absolutely owns this role, and David Tennant knocks off Tom Hiddleston as the top villain in the MCU. Ok, one more, dig the opening titles. http://youtu.be/wlrxeBJ3KY8

jimmer Verified Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I really loved D'onofrio as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil. So, for me, Tom Hiddleston was supplanted earlier this year.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 We just watched the first episode last night and I was telling my spouse how awesome this villain looked. Really looking forward to finishing it.
jimmer Verified Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I'm a pretty big fan of Tennant. He's my favorite Doctor, and Season One of Broadchurch was one of my favorite seasons of any show, ever. I'm glad he's getting more work on bigger projects. He's awesome.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 IMO, better than Daredevil. And I *really* liked Daredevil.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Just finished the season. The best comic-related show I've seen (and I'm pretty sure I've seen them all). We are truly in a golden age of television.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 One character who might get overlooked, at least early on, but turns out to be really excellent is Malcolm. Pay attention to his development. I think he'll play a key part in season 2.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 yeah, just started watching this. 4 episodes in. I liked Krysten Ritter in a few minor roles (Breaking bad in particular), but yeah, she's done pretty well in this. So far, I really like this show. My wife is even hooked on it, and she's not exactly a Marvel person. It will be interesting to see if they do a bit of cross over between DareDevil and Jessica Jones given that both are in Hell's kitchen at approximately the same time frame.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Two episodes in...........me likey.
jimmer Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I finished it. It was very good. I still like Daredevil a bit better, but Tennant was great. Is it wrong that I wanted the lawyer to die. It is, after all, only a show :-)
biggentleben Verified Member Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I just about fell out of my chair when Rosario Dawson showed up. Great series.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I just about fell out of my chair when Rosario Dawson showed up. Great series. I saw that one coming, though I honestly thought they would play it out a bit more. I'm expecting some Jessica Jones/Daredevil cross over starting next season. I'm really liking this.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 As someone who "likes" comics, but has grown tired of the comic movie/tv genre as a whole, is this series appealing enough from a stand alone standpoint to watch? Or do you need to be "into" all the marvel movies and other tv shows out currently to enjoy it? Fwiw: last good comic movie I liked was guardians of the Galaxy. Avengers, Ant man, Cap America and the last couple x men all were underwhelming a bit to me to be honest.

Or do you need to be "into" all the marvel movies and other tv shows out currently to enjoy it?You will probably enjoy it. It makes few references to previous Marvel work, almost to a detriment. And it doesn't feel like a superhero show. It feels more like neo noir in its first 5-6 episodes before a few - not many, just a few - superhero elements creep in. Have you watched DD? It's like that, only darker and better.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 yeah, this isn't about a costumed hero going around and saving the day. More about a woman with superpowers who is also dealing pretty heavily with her own demons. and yes, in terms of villians, Killgrave was by far one of the best ones Marvel has done.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Now that I've watched Daredevil, thank you for the advice by some in the other thread. My wife and I devoured it and loved it. D'Onofrio embraced the Kingpin in a truly special way. A brilliant villain is so important and he was freaking brilliant. On to Jessica Jones now, really looking forward to starting it tonight. The comic book fan in me only wishes I could see the X-men characters in the marvel universe.
glunn Community Moderator Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I really enjoyed Jessica Jones and agree that Killgrave was an amazing villain.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I believe they are releasing another Marvel series next year with Rosie Dawson playing her role again for what it's worth.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 I believe they are releasing another Marvel series next year with Rosie Dawson playing her role again for what it's worth. Luke Cage. Also Daredevil Season 2. Maybe Iron Fist towards the end of the year, but probably 2017 for that.
jimmer Verified Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Netflix still has Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil season two and The Defenders.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I haven't really researched it but my understanding is JJ got a season, Cage gets a season, Iron Fist gets a season, then they all combine for a multi-season series in The Defenders.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I was trying to figure it out if each of the individual series are basically going to be an origin story kind of thing and then if it will only be the Defenders going forward. From everything I've read though, Netflix is going to play it by ear depending on how successful the individual series' are. Daredevil already got Season 2, from how good it was and how much positive pub it's gotten, I'd guess Jessica Jones gets another stand alone season as well. So the Defenders might just be an interlude, kind of like how Marvel is still doing individual stories AND Avengers movies.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 One catch with the other characters is you're talking about Marvel's C list here. Daredevil may be the only B lister of the group, so he has more stories to tell and more source material to pull from. As good as Jessica Jones is (I'm only partially in, but it's pretty damn good), I'm not sure they'll have a second solo season for her. Same goes for Iron Fist and Luke Cage. But I could see the Defenders being an ongoing thing with all of them while Daredevil continues to appear there and in his own solo series. But I guess we'll see. Marvel continues to spin straw into gold. These characters are at best C listers in the marvel universe and they're creating some wonderful stuff with them. (Guardians weren't even D listers and that is one of their best movies)
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 It would not horribly surprise me to see some future season of Agent Carter and the forthcoming Marvel's Most Wanted also transition to Netflix. Maybe Agents of Shield too once it completes Season 4 (in 3 now) to get to the 88 episode mark that syndication prefers.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I would think they could make up additional material if the season is successful. As it is JJ and DD have both been very successful for Netflix, so I'd imagine they can continue them for the time being. As long as people watch them, they'll make them. I'd pretty disappointed personally if they took several successful stories and simply combined them into the defenders and left it at that.

I agree, though the source material is usually a better starting point. Everything so far has at least loose basis in the comic books so they don't have to reinvent the wheel as much as just finely hone what already exists into a show. I very much enjoy JJ so far, but it's a potential weakness of the series going forward relative to Daredevil.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Great show, but I prefer Fisk/Kingpin to Killgrave personally. But Jessica Jones and the hero characters were fantastic. I'd put Daredevil a slight bit ahead, but I tend to focus on the villains.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Some photos are out now for Daredevil season 2, and it also looks pretty good. Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Elodie Yung as Elektra should really step it up another notch. It's unclear yet if Fisk will return in this season. http://screenrant.com/daredevil-season-2-images-murdock-castle-punisher
