Marvel's Jessica Jones

It does seem as if DD is the show that ties all the Netflix Marvel shows together, with all the intermingled characters run through DD and receiving mention on the show at some point in the season. I rather like how they end up intermingling all of it.

It makes sense, as DD is Marvel's marquee "street level" hero. He was Marvel's first real counter to Batman, who was basically a play off The Shadow.

They're also three of my all-time favorite fictional characters.

Brock, after you get a few episodes in, would be interested to know if your take on Bernthal has changed at all.

Seems like an ideal fit for Castle.

I will say this, if I have any criticism of this show, it's that they are almost word for word stealing Dark Knight themes. A few lines made me cringe even, but they're pulling it off well.

Crap... DD2 and House of Cards... I've got some Netflix to watch.

I binged House of Cards last weekend, knowing this was coming out, and then it worked that I was able to work through DD2 this weekend. Now, for Kimmy Schmidt...nowhere near the same line of show, but good comic relief.

I have two or three episodes left in season two.

It's better than season one, I think. The Punisher does a good job of reflecting Murdock's vigilantism, which offsets the loss of scene-chewing D'Onofrio from season one. Add in Elektra and there are multiple pieces in play at any moment. It's hard to juggle so many engaging storylines but they're doing a very good job of it.

I still think Jessica Jones is the best of the bunch, though. I wish they weren't making season two... I suspect we'll see a True Detective scenario with the show; there's no way the creators can replicate season one so it's probably best they hang it up while they're way ahead and move onto another project.

Man, I still don't like Karen Page. I understand her importance from the comics but every time she's on screen with Murdock, I just groan. She's a lot more interesting when she's out on her own, though.

I wish we saw less Karen Page and more Claire Temple. Karen is the least interesting character on the show - and it's not a close competition, IMO - and she gets the second- or third-most screen time.

Half way through the season. It's good, and I like the DD vs Punisher angle, not just the fighting but the contrast.

I have to say though, they should really, really go light on the law stuff. I'm just a layman so maybe some of our legal experts can jump in here, but it seems to me, the writers understanding of the legal system is based on Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer sketches and Perry Mason quotes. Some of this stuff is hard to watch.

My wife is a lawyer. You're not wrong. She winced through many scenes.

Also, 75-year-old Scott Glen is looking pretty ripped. I'm starting to think the 70s and 80s missed the boat not making him an action star.

Not that he wasn't in a ton of great movies.

So, finished season 2, it was good, but they should probably cut back to 10 episodes or so, there was quite a bit of fat that could have been trimmed.

So DD tossed Nobu off the roof, which kind of strays away from his/Batmans/Supermans super yawn inducing no-killing policy. Does that mean he's turned the corner? Or is the fact that Nobu somehow survive and then killed by Stick outside of DD's presence mean the writers will retroactively invalidate his willingness to kill?

Because frankly, DD is a great character, but Elektra and The Punisher where much more entertaining.

Also, I don't know or remember a ton about comic plots from when I was a kid, but when we kept seeing that crypt and then we saw all the blood letting with the creepy kids, I started to think we were going to get vampires, which I started to think meant we were going to get Blade. Not sure what those kids were about exactly, but I'd watch a new storyline w/ Blade in it.

That scene at the end is classic DD and they really did a good job with it, IMO. Matt Murdock fights inner demons that make Batman look sane. He sometimes breaks his own moral code when he tips over the edge. This was one of those moments.

I expect the show to go to some pretty dark places as a result of the finale.

If they roll out Morbius and Blade for the next season, I may lose my **** right then and there.

Seeing Morbius on-screen would be so flippin' cool.

I find it funny we are talking about DD in a JJ thread... that said, really liking season 2 so far.  It certainly is keeping my interest.  Not sure about your disdain for Karen Paige.  It's not like the acting is bad, nor does the role seem forced.  I think they are doing a great job of it, and it's clear they're starting to bring these together.

I share the Karen Page hate.  She's unbelievably reckless and stupid.  As in yell "What the hell?" at your TV as the show is happening.

She's easily the worst part of an excellent show.

And this makes sense to talk about here, rumors are flying that the Defenders starts shooting later this year, putting all the shows on pause until after that.

Iron Fist started filming Friday.

After The Defenders airs, I won't be surprised to hear announcements about Punisher, Blade, and Ghost Rider series' under development.

And I still hope if ABC cancels Agent Carter, that also finds a home here.

The writers really don't seem to know what to do with Page. I don't blame the actress, as I agree she's in a lot of WFT moments. She seems to be pretty identical to every second fiddle woman in 70's and 80's tough guy cop show. The writers WANT to make her look smart, useful and tough but don't know how to make it work so that the macho-man main character can still regularly save her and be the most capable person in the room in every situation. For some reason, periodic mentally deficient damsel in distress always ends up being the fallback.

I don't know the behind the scenes going-ons, but DD could probably stand to borrow a JJ writer or two to help make the Page character appear not so obviously written by men who don't know a damn thing about women.

Nailed it.

I know I'm at least *slightly* unfair to Page's character, as I never liked her in the comic and don't particularly like the actress playing the character in the show. It's an uphill battle for the writers to get me to like that character at all.

But overall, she has been one of the more underwhelming characters in DD for the reasons you've listed.

But I'm not sure the writers need an infusion from JJ because they're doing a hell of a job with Claire. She's a great character, though severely underutilized in season two.
