Article: Twins With Winning Bid On Korean Slugger

24 hours and no leaks on who won the bid? Maybe it really is the Twins, few teams seem to be able to keep the lid on internal activity like our favorite team.

Joking. Mostly.

Sano moving to OF, The Twins one of 13 teams that could have signed him. this seems like it could be a Twins move. might be the only big move they make but it definitely would be very interesting.

I highly doubt the Twins front office would have bid the $12+ million for the right to negotiate but as of now the teams that haven't been counted out of the Park sweepstakes are:

Phillies

Brewers

Reds

Pirates

Cubs

White Sox

Twins

Astros

Doogie reported earlier this week the Twins did in fact scout Park.

Would you be in favor of siging Park? Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors speculated Park's contract would be in the 5 years and $40 million range. Doesn't seem like a move the Twins would make to me.

You can cross off the Reds (Votto), Pirates (Alverez and Bell) and the Cubs (Rizzo), I don't think they'd have a need for Park. Plus the Chi Sox are stuck with LaRoche so I don't think they go for him either.

Phillies

Brewers

Twins

Astros

Pirates are likely to non-tender Alvarez.  The Brewers picked up Adam Lind's option, though are said to be actively moving him.  I wouldn't count the White Sox out either.

If the Twins win, it's an indictment of Vargas and Arcia for sure.   It also diminishes their leverage in any Plouffe talks. That said, it'd be rad for the Twins to be bold.

this could be fun.... 1 one 5 teams. I'm sure if in fact it is the Twins do win, they plan on shipping Vargas and Plouffe in a package to get a RP and or Prospect depth. I feel like they'll keep Arcia considering how much potential he has in that bat with RF possibly open in 2016

The Phillies have ryan howard and that huge contract... The Brewers just exercised Lind's Contract, the Astros have Valbueno and Gattis DH'ing... White sox have Abreu and Laroche who's making 12 million next year.... It has to be us doesn't it?

Brewers are trying to trade Lind. Astros primarily use Gattis at DH and Valbuena at 3B(but I guess they could play him there) and they have Chris Carter and prospect A.J. Reed(couple years away) to play first but Carter has struggled to keep his BA up and his strikeouts down. I'd say we are favorites, but then again I'd be expecting the Twins to be bold.

Sounds like the top bidder will be announced today.

MLB Trader estimates the price tag would be:  $10MM posting fee and a five-year, $40MM contract from the winning team.

I predict the Brewers. Phillies don't have a very big need for him as they're stuck with Howard and the Twins love to stay quiet on these kinds of things.

It would t surprise me now that the Twins got the bid. I'm ok with that. It might be a way to replace a draft pick lost on a free agent, IF they were leaning that way. Adding quality players never hurts a organization, it just creates more opportunity to improve.

The Minnesota Twins have obtained the rights to negotiate with the KBO's Nexen Heroes first baseman Byung-ho Park.According to early reports from Pittsburgh Tribune's Travis Sawchick and KBO writer Daniel Kim that have since been confirmed by the Minnesota Twins, the team has won the right to Park, a 28-year-old first baseman who has hit 52 and 53 home runs in each of the last two seasons, with a $12.85 million bid and will have a 30-day negotiating window to come to terms on a contract.

Park's addition presents a new mystery as to how the Twins will move forward constructing their roster for 2016. If Park and the team agree to terms, Park's role will likely be as a designated hitter with some time at first base. However, with Mauer at first and Trevor Plouffe at third (for the time being), manager Paul Molitor told reporters at the Torii Hunter retirement press conference that the organization would have Miguel Sano, a first base/designated hitter type himself, get familiar with playing left field.

In his offseason interview, Twins general manager Terry Ryan told Twins Daily that he was interested in adding power. "I’ll take any kind of power," Ryan said. "Left or right-handed. It doesn’t matter. Somebody can hit the ball over the fence, you’re going to have interest. Power is hard to find, especially in this place."

Power is what Park provides.

Park has immense power potential, as demonstrated by his 52 and 53 home run seasons over the last two years in the KBO. While he can hit the ball a long way (reportedly hammering a pitch 522 feet this past September), he also has 303 strikeouts to his name since the beginning of 2014.

Will the power translate to the Major Leagues? Last winter the Pittsburgh Pirates added shortstop Jung-ho Kang to their roster. Kang, who had finished runner-up to Park's home run total, had a slow introduction to the pitching hitting just 4 home runs in his first 72 games and 11 in his last 54.
