Kwak Verified Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Treacly Announcers. Call the player out when he really screws-up--I don't mean the ordinary errors, but the stupid ones. Picked-off on a 3-2 count, not knowing how many outs, throwing to the wrong base, becoming a spectator while in the field. Rip the guy good and loud--he gets paid at least a half-million a year--he should be aware!
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Outer half, inner half, dropped the bat-head on the ball, hit the other way, my California mathChopper, dribbler, squirter ...

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Flyballs that drop in and are ruled a hit simply because the outfielder totally wiffed on the ball. If the outfielder makes a slightly less terrible play and at least gets his glove on it, then it is an error.
Blackjack Provisional Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I personally like that they play the Star Spangled Banner before every radio broadcast, I sing along, it makes me proud to be an American -- and it makes me think of all the men and women that have served our country. What gets old to me is Cory Provus constantly sucking up to Dan Gladden, "World Series champ", "all star", etc.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 This is probably more football than baseball but guys "having a great offseason." I don't care what you did or accomplished in the offseason, I care about what happens when the real bullets start flying. That's absolutely baseball. ITBSOHL is an acronym because of baseball spring training comments.

As a fan of a team with one of the most inventive organists around, I fully disapprove of this message.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 This is an oft used football gripe but baseball uses it too. I hate when so-and-so is on the DL "with a hamstring" or day-to-day " with an ankle". Why would someone be out with a hamstring?!? I have two, and glad to have both. Is the hamstring injured? If so, is it too burdensome to state that it is?

D. Hocking Verified Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 What gets old to me is Cory Provus constantly sucking up to Dan Gladden, "World Series champ", "all star", etc. I think Provous gives Dan s*&* a little more now, so it is not as bad as when he first teamed up with him. However, generally when they have someone on from one of the World Series teams they lay it on thick. Even if it is someone who they talk to frequently they bring up whatever play the person might have made every time. I remember when Morris used to host a post-game show (I think while they were on 1500), every single week someone would bring up game 7 and how if he would have pitched today's game it would have been a complete game and they would have won. Granted -- good pitcher and fantastic game, but I did not forget he pitched that game since it had been mentioned the previous day. I think every caller also would bring it up. To be fair, they were probably desperate for things to talk about during this time. There were only so many times they could speculate how great a pitcher Sam Deduno could be if he learned to control his pitches. My grumpy old man post for the day. Rain delays have also gotten old.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I'm kinda waiting for one of the organists to break into the Tocatta and Fugue in D minor. Although that's really old.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Without a doubt, for me, is Dick Bremer's total inability to judge fly balls correctly. It happens at least once a game when he gets all excited for a ball that doesn't even reach the warning track.
gil4 Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 " Managers and coaches still wearing uniforms. Gardy and Scioscia should have been allowed to wear bowling shirts if they wanted." Tommy Lasorda should have worn a tent. This was a nice look. I'm not sure it would have worked as well for Lasorda, Scioscia, or Gardenhire as it did for Connie Mack. http://media.web.britannica.com/eb-media/32/61932-004-5B646289.jpg
Hrbowski Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I say let them wear whatever they want.If I was a manager and was allowed to do this I would have 29 team jerseys on hand.

He makes you pay attention if your mind has wandered away from the immediate play.

I'm sure the Twins organist is a nice lady, but what she delivers may just as well be pre-recorded Mall Music-, it's time to go get someone a lot younger and then give them wide latitude, like the free-form, "crowdsourcing" Braves organist: http://www.wired.com/2011/05/tweeting-baseball-organist/ Wired: "You’ve made some amusing suggestions in your feed about song choices. I especially enjoyed the idea that you’d introduce Dillon Gee of the New York Mets just by playing an extended G note. How much latitude do you have in terms of getting weird with these? And which of your more avant-garde choices are you especially proud of?"Braves organist, Matt Kaminski: ‘I think that organists add a spontaneous edge that you can’t get with prerecorded music. I can play something at a moment’s notice. They’ve pretty much given me the OK on almost everything that I’ve done.'

sane Provisional Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Not OK.I like "The Sound of Silence".Hello darkness, my old friend,I've come to talk with you again,Because a vision softly creeping,Left its seeds while I was sleeping,And the vision that was planted in my brainStill remainsWithin the sound of silence. In restless dreams I walked aloneNarrow streets of cobblestone,'Neath the halo of a street lamp,I turned my collar to the cold and dampWhen my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon lightThat split the nightAnd touched the sound of silence. And in the naked light I sawTen thousand people, maybe more.People talking without speaking,People hearing without listening,People writing songs that voices never shareAnd no one daredDisturb the sound of silence."Fools," said I, "You do not know.Silence like a cancer grows.Hear my words that I might teach you.Take my arms that I might reach you."But my words like silent raindrops fellAnd echoed in the wells of silenceAnd the people bowed and prayedTo the neon god they made. And the sign flashed out its warningIn the words that it was forming. And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway wallsAnd tenement hallsAnd whispered in the sounds of silence."

sane Provisional Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Geez, mind if I clap politely when Sano homers? Or will that disturb your meditation day at the ballpark?Nah, silence is not necessary, nor even possible. There is considerable wiggle-room between silence and Thundersticks/vuvuzelas. I am totally OK with crowd noise which is NOT "enhanced" to the level of unbearable pain.
