Mauer's On Base Streak ... compared to the MLB record.

Joe Mauer has been on base 33 consecutive games. This is very impressive. Keep on going, Joe.

I have wondered about hitting streaks vs. on-base streaks; the latter seems more important, yet generally you don't hear about it.

So I looked it up, and do you know who holds the MLB record?

record?

Ted Williams. 84 games.

The man who missed 5 years of baseball during the prime of his career, while fighting in World War II and Korea would have amassed around 3500 hits and 700 home runs if not for that little blip. (Career career OBP: just .482.)

Apparently the only thing Mauer Hates more than hitting HR is America!"

You're not implying that I was implying that Mauer should have fought in a war are you?

Fighting in two wars is simply an extraordinary asterisk to Ted Willliams' career, no?

not at all! It was more just a joke about the amount of criticism Mauer receives on social media (and even some message boards "he should retire!!22!")

But yes, it's pretty amazing that williams had such a great baseball career and military career. One of the better stories that doesnt get talked about very much I feel.

Thanks. I wasn't sure what you meant. (The typed word doesn't always convey sarcasm very well, etc.).

Good thing those 84 games didn't come during one of those periods. We would have failed to even notice.

/ Yeah, STN, another lame attempt at sarcastic humor. So it goes...

I also hope Joe's kid doesn't freeze his head in a cryogenic tank.

I hope your kid doesn't freeze yours either.

/ 'Cause, that's how pals roll, right?

Hope things end up better for Joe than they did for Teddy.

about 500 years too early to make that claim
