Harrelson served as a Chicago White Sox announcer from 1982 to 1985 and briefly left broadcasting during the 1986 season to become the White Sox's General Manager. During his one season as GM, Harrelson fired field manager Tony La Russa (who was soon hired by the Oakland Athletics) and assistant general manager Dave Dombrowski (who became baseball's youngest general manager with the Montreal Expos just two years later). Harrelson also traded rookie Bobby Bonilla, later a six-time All-Star, to the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher José DeLeón.

Back in the day, when they discovered that a person was left handed, they would chop their left hand off and make them a regular person. Cruel, but true story.

There is a regular poster here who used to think largely out of the left side of his brain -- some doctors wanted to remedy that with some ill-advised brain surgery.

He somehow survived -- but you can tell from his posts that something is not quite right with his mind (ok - not right at all).  I will give the person some privacy and not say who he is, but he might be a moderator.

Also a cruel, but true story,

Love it

I'd love to hear the discussion that led to him becoming the GM.

"Let's get Hawk in here!"

"The TV guy?"

"Yeah, he makes good points on the show!"

"But...he has no experience, what makes you think this is a good idea at all?  We have that kid Dombrowski we have been grooming for almost a decade now."

"WHO?  Give me HAWK!"

Or...that's how I like to imagine it going.

And starred in a Monty Python film, if I recall.

You guys are mean.  I like it.

P.S. - Extra credit for anyone who can capture and post a sound bite of the Hawk after Sano hits a skyscraper.

I bet Bark can cobble together a photo.

From a purely mathematical standpoint, the Sox may be in it if they win all their games.

I look at it this way. With 32-33 games to go for most teams, some team in the AL is going to get hot and go 23-10. We just don't know which one, but it happens every year. It could be some first place team that proceeds to run away with the regular season title, or some last place team that gets hot and salvages a near-.500 record.

If it happens to be the White Sox, it will put their season record at 84-78. I don't think that's going to be enough wins. So for my purposes, the Sox are out of it. It would take more than just a hot final month, but a miracle.

Yeah... But what if they go 24-9?

Makes perfect sense to me

ChiTown wanted to keep that under wraps.

Is there any science behind how you become right or left handed? I'm absolutely right hand dominant, but swing left handed for golf, hockey, and baseball.

The next time you and the cousins come through Chicago you'll have to experience WhirleyBall.

Just watched a video on it... Looks perfect for me... Sports while sitting down.

CB Buckor loves nothing more than to make the game about himself, and I don't understand how he wasn't fired many years ago.

Um, I believe he said 'He' not 'She'

Oh... I thought those were typos.

Well I have no idea who she was talking about then.

Molitor's challenge success rate coming into the game was 65%, which ranks fourth in the MLB.

Last year Gardy was 54%.

Guess which manager led MLB last year, and so far this year? (Prize to be unannounced).

Is it possible that he changed to she during the surgery?

I don't think so
