Cruz is no libertarian, he wants to drive the deficit up so he can bomb the life out of the middle east. He's an expansionist, no doubt about it.

I find the Republican usurping of "Libertarian ideals" interesting. Libertarianism, for good or bad, is based on the principle "I'll do what I want". The twisted Republican version is based on "you'll do what I want".

Yeah, that goes back 60 or 70 pages. If you think Ted Cruz is a libertarian, you don't know what the hell a libertarian is.

to me the difference between Trump and Cruz is Cruz actually believes the toxic crap coming out of his mouth.

You may have seen the offensive MN plate, stating how much someone hates Muslims......

DO NOT read the comments on KARE11, the number of people that agree with the sentiment, and who don't understand freedom of speech, is depressing. Make the people dumb, and they'll believe/vote for anything......

Yeah, exactly. I was just reading up on how Cruz thinks Apple should comply with the FBI's demands to create a back door to iOS. Oddly enough, Rubio disagrees. I was a bit surprised to discover that tidbit.

Ted Cruz. Definitely (not) a Libertarian.

There is a difference between the middle east and ISIS.

Yeah, it's really dumb, but Dayton should not have drawn attention to the issue as it makes him look like he is trying to politicize it to improve his image.

May I respectfully ask where you draw the line at whether an offense is worthy of publicity?

At this point in Dayton's life/career, does he really need to improve his political image?

Publicity and a politician giving something publicity are a little different, and in most cases politicians should only give something like this publicity if the offender was breaking the law.

And yes, Dayton still needs to improve his image.

Honest question: Is there any reason to think the national political parties have much of a future?

Trump and Sanders are neither Republican or Democrat and here we are. Trump is in the final stages of purchasing the votes of Republican voters away from the Republican party, and the Democratic Party is completely in the bag for Hillary this year.

I understand how valuable the letter behind the candidate is, but who cares about the party apparatus behind it anymore? Anyone have any good links to some good analysis?

I hope there us a day when a relevant third party rises. I very much believe some form of the libertarian party could rise up with the millennial generation. We've been screwed over by policy and corporations more than any other in history, been forced to pinch pennies to not drown in credit card and student loan debt, are consistently underestimated and undervalued... We grew up in a nation with equal rights, we don't believe in the status quo, or doing things a certain way because that is how is always been done. This generation is different, and it's no surprise to me the conventional candidates are not winning this vote.

So, Trump or Rubio it is.........my wife and I were trying to decide which we wanted. Not an easy choice.

Rubio is infinitely more electable in a general. He avoids directly insulting >50% of the electorate.

Trump may be able to pull this **** in the primaries and feed off GOP infighting but it's a losing strategy when everybody gets a voice, not only the fringe nut jobs. And now that he's said and done all this ridiculous crap, he can't walk back from it in the general. Clinton will have a field day with that clown.

Is it the wrong attitude to say this Republican primary gets more awesome by the day?

I know Trump is Trump, but it's not like he's any worse than Rubio or Cruz, so really what difference does it ultimately make? Hopefully they can blow up this whole party in the process.

I do think Trump is worse than the two Senators.

did Christie endorse Trump to help him, or because he knows everyone hates him, and this might hurt Trump?

Christie likely did this because it helps Christie. But it is only the beginning, I think there might be a floodgate about to follow. If nothing else, this certainly changes the conversation away from a good debate from Rubio last night.

One of my favorite parts has been seeing the reasonable and thoughtful conservatives melt down. You ride a beast long enough this is what eventually happens.

I would guess reasonable and thoughtful conservatives stayed the hell away from this bunch.

They did. And while I want to party to blow up, what I actually think will happen is that the party will let it roll, take the Presidential beating while trying to hold on to Congress, and try again in 4 years with a "better" candidate.

Ya, that was not a serious question.......but I agree with your conclusions.

Since Trump is about guaranteed this thing and (I think) guaranteed to lose the general.....

will three consecutive presidential election defeats be enough to shake up this party?  Because the last two defeats have just pushed many in the base closer to the Cruz-types of the world and not towards sanity.

Not sure the shake up won't be all over, tbh. We could see the beginnings of a migration from a two-party system. The 'outsiders' and the 'insiders' are really at odds these days, more so than at any other time I recall.
