Rosario has never had success above A-ball.* He's 23, so it's not like he's especially young for a prospect, either. His reputation far exceeds his results... I understand that it's for two weeks, but I thought the Twins were trying to win? He doesn't give them the best chance to do so.

* Except for the success he had in the AFL?  Clearly, the Twins saw something from Rosario both last fall and this spring- or they wouldn't have slotted him at AAA to start out the season, skipping AA before he'd mastered that level. Hicks is on double-secret probation, it has to be Rosario for now, no pressure if he falters, goes back down and regroups, but what if he pulls a Santana?.... next month, perhaps it's going to be Hicks' time to shine.

He also had a very good 1/2 year as a 21-year-old in AA. It was last year when he was repeating (and started two months late) that he struggled. Personally, that's something I can chalk up to the suspension.

Rosario's AFL performance was almost exactly league average.

His 2013 AA performance was also right around league average. True, he was 21, but for an alleged top prospect that isn't out of the ordinary.

Noting that he could have a lucky streak isn't much of an argument... that could be used to justify almost any move.

Rosario's 2013 time in AA amounted to a .742 OPS. That was good for a second baseman, but "very good" for nobody, regardless of position.

Whatever happens, it should be interesting! This is what I want to be watching from this Twins team anyway, though't its a shame it has to come at the expense of an Arcia injury.

Forget Hicks. He is a head case and an attitude problem

Congratulations Eddie. I am looking forward to seeing what you can do.  :)

AFL stats were pretty good for Hicks in 2011 as well. Ahem. AFL stats are almost as bad as ST stats as far as SSS go.

I have always liked Rosario, his suspension was total nonsense, and I think he will be a good player for the Twins sooner rather than later. And I understand the 15-day nature of this. What I don't understand is how anyone could think that staying up with the Twins could or should happen.

After a pretty thoroughly sub-par half season at AA last year and a sub-par month at AAA? I actually don't hope, for his sake, that he hits well in 12+ games and then the Twins keep him up. Have we learned nothing from the Aaron Hicks experience?

I know I haven't. I learned at an early age, prospects struggle and prospects fail. Why would it be any different with our favorite team? Who is Danny Ortiz?

I think this is the right call, even though Hicks is the better player right now. I expect Rosario to struggle. If he doesn't, great. But if he does, he's down in 15 days with a few things to work on. Hicks had 2 years. I want to see him do well for something longer than a few weeks before he gets the call.

Hitting well in 12 games has not been part of the Aaron Hicks Experience (so far).

Not sure what you're referring to, but overall league average OPS in the AFL was .718, vs. Rosario @ .755.  Eastern League OPS  was .717 vs. Rosario @ .742 (one of nine 21 year olds in the league that year, Rosario was the top performer by far, he also out-performed then-22-year old Joe Panik, who OPS'd @ .680).

So you're arguing instead for a guy who has failed... spectacularly...twice.... after supposedly "succeeding" at AA?

Getting a quick 15-day look-see, ala Polanco and Santana last year, isn't going to hurt the Twins much,  if at all, and serves notice that the changing of the guard is at hand.

Now that the team got above .500, I guess it's time to "right the ship" and promote the MiLers.

You're putting words in my mouth that I haven't stated. To the contrary, I'm far from predicting instant success for Rosario, I'm responding to the allegation that Rosario has "failed" @ AA-level pitching.

The Twins were aggressive in promoting Rosario to AAA- and now to the Twins, isn't that what almost all of us want the Twins to do?  (And haven't you yourself run a series on players the Twins should push?)

By far the best among the nine  21 year olds in the league, and as I pointed out previously, far better than 22-year old Joe Panik's .680 OPS.

Good for Rosario.  This time last season he was in the organizational doghouse because of his own doing.

Very important and really happy to see way better roster management with Molitor & Co over Gardy & Co.  No day-to-days that linger for weeks and cripple the team.  No way that Gardenhire would have used the DL so often this season.  Great to see that Molitor does.

That's exactly what many of us were hoping for. It makes little sense to complain we move our prospects too slowly, then complain when they do. It should come as no surprise Rosario made it to Target Field this season.

The Twins are going to have a full bench tonight?  hallelujah!!!

Does Gregory Polanco and his OPS of .762 not count?

Rosario trailed three 20-year olds in AA, Polanco at 21, and was basically equal to three other 21-year olds once park factors are taken into account (Flores, Austin, Suarez). Among the youngest players in the league, he didn't stand out at all.

Great post.  Molitor is far from earning Manager of the Year kudos, but... the contrast in decisiveness about the roster and dyamism with both the lineup and the bullpen has been refreshing.

Just one year ago at this time the braintrust was mired in the midst of unwinding from a series of horrible off-season veteran roster additions and "pronouncements"- like "Florimon is my Shortstop!" and "Bartlett is my Super-Utility guy!", "I need 13, no, 14 pitchers!", "Veteraniness over young talent!" and "We're keeping Meyer and May down because we have a Plan!"

Now let's see how adroitly they handle Part Two---  cutting the veteran deadweight and readyying the top prospects to hit the ground running.

They all had under 300 PAs, didn't include them in my screen. Of the 9 players with over 300 PAs, Rosario was by far the best (next closest was at league average)

I appreciate that data in a small sample size were not used to make the decision.

Hicks will get his shot this year. Pinto will get his shot. I think it is the last option for both. A long stretch (~40 game) of success in AAA followed by a strategic transition to the majors will benefit both.

Well, what about the sizable sample size from Eddie Rosario over the last year, aside from moderate success in the AFL!?

Anyway, I have said here or elsewhere that I understand the move instead of Hicks.

cant it start with 12 and go from there? I guess I would give a little more weight to 12 games in May than 12 games in March. And besides Hicks and Rosario aren't the same. One may react differently than the other. For all we know some extended time in AAA could help Hicks right his ship and still become a very valuable every day CF or 4th OF, and Rosario could take over every day CF duties from day one.

I'm assuming that Rosario will be replacing Arcia in LF.  Perhaps a minor quibble here, but I noted that Rosario has been playing CF and RF in AAA.  I recall Rosario playing some LF in Spring Training, so maybe playing LF for the Twins is not a problem, but I haven't been a fan of the Twins putting players in unfamiliar positions when they get called up.  And, I know it's just for 15 days.

Of course, Escobar is playing in LF tonight, so I suppose they could move Rosario to the infield.....LOL.
