If Schafer goes to the DL, I assume Hicks comes up.

 

Not sure who would replace Fien though.  Pressley, maybe?  I think he's on the 40 man.

Why was Fien even still in the game after the Cabrera' home run? It was already his second inning and it was proving to be too many. Molitor and Allen's judgement is pretty suspect to me. And if pitcher's are such great athletes, why does Fien just not take that pop up in the 8th by himself? It was right to him. He would barely of had to move. The tradition of not having pitchers field balls is ridiculous. I think.

Still early.  Yes, so far Hicks has done fine, but mostly from the right side.  Given Schafer's struggles in the field, I think Hicks might be a bit of an upgrade, but Hicks isn't a good center fielder.  I still would rather see Rosario get promoted, and he hits lefty as does the guy to be replaced.

Is "being hurt" Fien's excuse for the suckage today?  Did the "undetermined arm injury" before or after the gopherball?  Or is "undetermined arm injury" euphemism for "suckage"?

 

I hope that Oliveros gets up to replace Fien and anyone else to replace Stauffer.

I think that they can wait a little bit on putting Schafer on the DL as they have other options in the OF.

They can also wait a little  bit on Hughes since he's a starter and won't pitch for a few days.

 

However, I think they need to DL Fien right away. He's had issues already this spring with the shoulder. That's what this is. It's not going to get better by being used, so give him the two weeks and get someone up here.

 

I also think it is about time to part ways with Stauffer, and if so, they can call up a second bullpen arm right away. Or, they could wait until Duensing comes off the DL, I think this weekend.

The last 2 seasons, Fien has negative Win Probability Added (which means that the team was in worse shape after he "did his job" than before he came in) and negative fangraphs "Clutch" (which is a composite measure that indicates performance in high leverage situations) in his career with the Twins.   This means that he "is doing his job" in less than half the time the past 2 seasons and is consistently below average when it matters.

(maybe from 93% to 95%) If he comes into the game in the 8th inning and doesn't do his job, the team's likelihood of winning drops precipitously. (maybe from 93% to 8%) So, one bad game is not the same weight as one good game for a reliever. Bad stat for a reliever, in my opinion.

IR List--or how to play "the depth" without committing to them.  Ryan has stated many times how he "likes options"--so this is no surprise.  Eventually decisions have to be made--though avoiding them is what is "par for course".  Since 2015 [should have been known by all] to be a "building season" giving "tastes" to "the options" is OK.  But soon the hard decisions, commitments, have to be made--and kept!
