Royals/White Sox don't like each other

Maybe it's the Royals?

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/120176696/tensions-boil-over-in-royals-white-sox-fracas

Anyway, I've never quite seen this before.  The pitcher (Yordano Ventura) snags a pretty well hit groundball by Eaton and seemed angry about it.  As Eaton jogs up the first base line, it looks like Ventura brings into question Eaton's mother's sexual proclivity.  They exchange swear words but the dugouts emptied fast and some other players make it a little scrum.

These Royals sure are making April more interesting.

What is the deal with KC?

There were a couple hit batsmen in the game again.  I dunno.  Strange, I really don't remember a team being this .... dickish in a long time.

This is my take and I may be reaching.

I think after the loss of Shields, the KC Clubhouse is trying to create a new identity for themselves. From the stuff I read and watched last season, it appeared that Shields was a great leader and very respected teammate on that ball club. One player usually should not define a baseball team. I think most analysts were ready to take a dump on the Royals once Shields left via Free Agency

I think these guys have a chip on their shoulders and feel like they are deemed a flash in the pan by most analyst, etc., etc. and want to stand their ground and announce to the baseball world that they are here to stay for next few years.

The Royals have a very good team. Their defense is superb, even with the loss of James Shields, their Starting pitching is respectable, their bullpen is 2nd to no one... it is unbelievably great.

The Royals are off to a great start, and their offense at this point has taken a big leap forward compared to last year. As long as no one gets hurt physically, I believe you have to give a team the leeway to be jackasses and jerks to create a new mantra/identity or whatever.

I hate the Royals... but hats off to them.

Dirty bastards. :)

I thought it was "**** You" . . . for whatever stupid reason. I don't understand how such a thing leads to that though.

Lipreading is one of my specialties. Based on Ventura's mouth over the past few weeks, he ought to be thrown out of baseball. At least for the time being. I've had it with him.

I agree with Hawk, Yoradano Ventura ought to have his behind whipped, I can't stand the Royals, and I am glad that Smaradzija took down Yost, he deserved it along with the whole team, I hope that Ventura is slapped with a 50 game suspension, and that Molitor and the rest of the league will brush back Royal batters.

Okay, okay, they've created a new identity for themselves. They're not going to be forgotten about for a while now. Does that mean it's time to shape up now? Heavens, yes.

My reasoning is, it's only a matter of time before someone is hurt physically. I don't think we should wait and ignore the red light until something disastrous happens. Something has to be done, and in my not-so-humble opinion, it's got to be done fast. The sooner the better.

And I'm telling you, that red light is blinking faster and faster.

Yordano Ventura just looks like an idiot at this point.

You know it's looking bad for you when Hawk Harrelson looks like the grown up in the room.

I wouldn't worry.  Baseball players nearly never get hurt in fights or retaliation HBPs - far less than hockey, football and even basketball players.  The only few that I can think of were the Spaceman in the 70s, the catcher hitting the pitcher with the bat in the 60s, the Cards backup catcher about 7 years ago (was kicked in the head and got a concussion by a Red).  Probably a few more but not really enough to think it's a real concern.  If we're lucky, it's a brawl like last night where nothing much really happened but are fun to watch.

Fun as long as players on your team don't get hurt. I'm glad that the Twins have been classy throughout this. Now if they do try to start a brawl with us, of course we have to defend ourselves. But I wish that MLB would do something to get this team under control.

Maybe all the talk about putting baseball on the clock (like hockey) got the Royals wired like hockey players. And acting like that, as I said, it's only a matter of time before somebody's hurt.

Another thing. What if the Royals started an uncalled for brawl because Joe Mauer didn't charge the mound after getting hit by a pitch, and Arcia and Hunter flew at them and gave them the beating they'd been asking for? Then they got suspended along with a few select Royals players. Now, just suppose that Arcia and Hunter's bats had just started to heat up, so we lost two valuable assets to our team. Would it be worth it? Well, if it put the Royals in their place, yes, I'd say so. But I don't think that MLB should leave it to the Twins (or White Sox, as the case seems to be) to deal with a bunch of toddlers who are all in need of serious help.

I will never criticize a team for not liking the White Sox.

Hey, that's pretty funny, honestly, but it's not the White Sox they're singling out. If they're singling anybody out this year, it's the Twins.

In further news, I heard Yordano Ventura is amassing baseballs to throw at all of you message board posters who hurt his feelings. I'm sure, like it always does in baseball, will fix things and be better for the game.

Reading more about this, it sounds like Eaton was chirping at Ventura about quick pitching him.  I had honestly never heard that phrase before.  Strange.

There was lots of stuff going on throughout this game carried over from their last meeting, and lots of jawing at each other from the benches. And while the Ventura-Eaton thing, which started the bench clearing, seemed to end quickly, it was the Samardzija-Cain thing that ended up with punches being thrown. From what all I've read it was Samardzija who went directly for Cain when this all started. And Cain has indicated that this was a hold-over to when Samardzija was with the A's. Really?

It really doesn't matter to me who started it or who was 'chirping' at whom. You throw a ball or a punch at someone for any reason, you should be ejected and fined on the spot. And all this 'bad blood' carrying over from game to game, series to series and year to year is just ridiculous. There is no excuse, imo.

And now Chris Sale is saying how all this was good and he hopes this fires up the White Sox. And so it continues. Almost makes me want to buy a ticket to tonight's game just to see if anything happens. Almost but not quite.

I watched the whole sequence and Eaton was dawdling getting back into the batters box. Seriously dawdling. Eaton would still be outside the batters box if he could have got away with it. Then Eaton got mad because Ventura pitched as soon as Eaton was close to being ready. As far as I'm concerned, Eaton started the whole thing through his antics and then got upset when Ventura put Eaton in his place.

After that, well, neither side covered itself with glory.

Yost needs to get control of KC, though. Too many key players wind up suspended and the team doesn't recover.

From what I read Ventura has been involved in 3of these and he seems to have a low boiling point. IMO it should stop. It is gotten to be a bit ridiculous. The manager is either promoting this or has lost control of his players. Theirs a difference playing with a chip on your shoulder and shoving it ones face waiting for it to be knocked off. Personally, I can do without the drama in baseball.

. Uh, so far it's not our fight, but this would allow Molly and Yost time to go deep sea fishing in June! Regardless, Molly has to be back for the Welcome Home Ervin Luncheon at the Mpls Athletic Club in early July! :)

. You should go, I hear Da Crusher is going to take on Mad Dog Vachon during God Bless America in the seventh inning! Something about settling a 60 yr old feud!

Interesting stat: Ventura has yet to be pulled from a game this year.  Four starts, ejected twice, came out due to injury twice.  Maybe he just doesn't like to being pulled out by Yost?

I hope the Royals sign Nyjer Morgan, Elijah Dukes, and Milton Bradley.

Maybe throw Delmon in there, but perhaps they would be concerned he might charge someone not in the visitor's clubhouse.

Keep it up.  And involve Detroit and Cleveland.  KC's and WSux 2 best pitchers suspended because of this.

Loving it :)
