A victory and the Twins will be in third place!

Very interesting that Arcia gets moved to right when Hunter is out of the lineup and apprentice OF Escobar replaces him.  It tells me that when Hunter's time is up as a Twin, the new right fielder for the Twins will be Oswaldo Arcia.

Was there really any doubt with that? At least that's what I assumed would happen.

"Banishing?"  This is a one-day deal, and already the locals are complaining on social media about him missing a home game.

That's because the locals think UZR is a modified Israeli machine gun, and don't remember the first-rate donkey Hunter was on his way out of town in 2007.

Every week, he appeared as a guest on the Dan Barreiro show to profess how much he wanted to be in Minnesota, but that is wasn't up to him.    He claimed it was in the Twins best interest to talk to him as soon as possible, so when the FO offered to re-work his deal, he of course refused to even negotiate.    And lo and behold, when he got his free agency, he rejected the Twins offer, and demonstrated that it WAS up to him.

Now, I'm not saying Hunter should have taken 3 and 45 instead of the Angels' 5 and 90.    I'm just saying be honest about what you're after, which in his case, was the money.

So why displace the young player who has defensive problems in the outfield and send him across the field for one year?

I will write, similar to what I wrote last game about the lineup. I love seeing Escobar on the lineup, but not in the outfield. Put him at short, Santana in CF and Schafer in left. I get playing Santana at short for the long term. But if the twins are focusing on the long term Pelfry would not starting.

All you are saying is true, but the braintrust that offers the current contract must also be included in the "locals", then, right?

Not the first time this franchise suffered from a lapse in logic and foresight, and it won't be the last one, either.

Which is why I had difficulties about the signing to begin with. But that's been discussed to death. Heh, Hunter isn't even in the game, yet somehow this thread is all about him! And maybe that's the answer ... it's all about him! ;)

Must be, because it sure ain't for me. Ish. Ick. One for each.

...or two for one depending how you like to surf the waves (in a creepy voice, channeling the feel of Rob Lowe's creepy guy cable commercial).

I would guess that the "braintrust" is familiar with UZR, but because it can't be scouted with the eye test, doesn't use it.    I would also imagine that they remember very well what Hunter did in 2007, but figured the potential of a few thousand more tickets, jerseys, and concessions sold due to the homerism of rubes would more than offset that + the $10m they're paying him to be a mentor (which, given that Rosario, Buxton, and Hicks are all in the minors, apparently he's mentoring Schafer and Robinson).

Hunter plays a better outfield then Nunez and Escobar, if you want a good defensive outfielder there is always Hicks.

If he has become one in two weeks in Rochester I am prepare to be pleasantly surprised. There's much more to playing CF than being fast.
