Apparently Mauer came in at #30 in ESPN's fantasy baseball list for first basemen and was the only one who didn't make ESPN's top 250 fantasy list.

Wait, they are saying that a 1B that doesn't hit for power, doesn't drive people in, doesn't steal bases, and (at least recently) doesn't hit for great average is not a valuable fantasy player?

 

hmmmm....they must be biased against the Twins.

I'm guessing that's one of their "experts" rankings. ESPN also projects stats and they rank Mauer 23rd and that's with Buster Posey who will play catcher, Carols Santana who will play 3rd, Victor Martinez at DH and Brandon Moss and Mark Trumbo who may be in the outfield. Not very impressive, but not the worst.

Gotta disagree. Mauer's fantasy ranking reflects the national opinion of where he ranks among first basemen in reality.

 The idea that there is "the national opinion" of anything is just one person's opinion.

The only thing Mauer's fantasy value reflects is his power numbers relative to other guys who stand around near first base. It has nothing to do with national opinion. Most guys at first are pure hitters with negligible defense. Mauer is there for a different reason. It's not national opinion of Mauer that finds him there, it's that he has a completely different set of skills that does not translate nearly as well onto a fantasy baseball stat sheet. And his fantasy value surely has little to no correlation to his actual value. That's preposterous.

 

But I agree, maybe there is room for this fantasy talk on the board. I'm actually surprised there is not a separate Twins Daily Fantasy baseball forum.
