Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I realize that I shouldn't even consider it happening, but... http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/24/shocker-joe-maddon-to-opt-out-of-his-contract-and-leave-the-rays/
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Dreamer. It's cute, really, when you dream like this. While we all believe he'll be in LA.......how bad will it get in TB as more and more people (not just players now) opt to leave?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Unless he's absolutely going to the Dodgers or wants to take a break, I can't think of a better team to jump on board than the Twins. Great farm, young players... It's the perfect situation for a guy like Maddon. Any other similar team already has a manager in place.
SarasotaBill Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 At the very least Ryan needs to interview Madden.
Trov Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I don't think the Twins have a chance to hire him, but if he would come here I would love it. He built a winner in Tampa Bay with no budget. I love his style telling his switch hitters to bat right handed against a right hander that has a killer cutter and dominates lefties. He was one of the first to start to shift infield around. He will get a job I think where ever he wants one when there is an opening.
Boom Boom Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 If there's any interest on Maddon's part at all, the Twins should pounce on this.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I would imagine that Maddon and Friedman already have an agreement in place. In fact, I think some Rays fans are already complaining about collusion.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Obviously if the Twins have any shot, they should just offer him the job right now.....but really, I'll buy tickets to at least one game if they do!
kydoty Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Jon Heyman saying that LA is not an option for Maddon. Make it happen, Terry!
iTwins Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Do it. Today.Pay him what he wants.I don't care how it happens, get Maddon here. Someone (hopefully the Twins) is going to get one heck of a manager.
shs_59 Provisional Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Pay Him 3 Mill + if you have to annually. I praise the lord every day for a moment like this, it doesn't happen very often but if we Hire Maddon for the next few/ or several years.. It would be one of the greatest days of my life.
shs_59 Provisional Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 The Twins are down to 3 guys though. mientkeiwicz , Molitor and i think Lovello of Boston Red Sox.. PLEASE REVISE THIS TWINS FRONT OFFICE PLEASE!
Boom Boom Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 This line from mlbtraderumors.com made me chuckle: "The only open managerial seat at present is the Twins’, though Minnesota appears to be well down the line in its search." Yeah, the Twins are so well down the line on their search that Joe Maddon is just too late to the party. Tough luck.
Musk21 Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 From Marc Topkin of the TB Times (@TBTimes_Rays): - Maddon was making an average of $2-million in his latest deal with #Rays. No indication yet of where he is headed or if he will work in '15. - Maddon told me decision to leave #Rays was combination of financial issues and curiosity over what opportunities will present. - Maddon said he has nothing lined up at this point after leaving #Rays. Said he would prefer to manage in '15 but could still stay involved. - Maddon said there was give and take with #Rays on a new deal but "we were still too far apart." - Maddon: "When am I going to get this opportunity to find out exactly what people think under these circumstances.'' - Maddon on how hard it was to leave #Rays: "Gut wrenching, almost feeling sick.''
FattCrapps Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I predict he'll sign with the Cubs. Book it.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 St. Paul Saints tweet: St. Paul Saints @StPaulSaints · 15m 15 minutes agoWe would like to announce we have no plans to interview Joe Maddon. George Tsamis will remain our manager. Obviously he would be a great hire, and unlike Doug M. I would not constantly misspell his last name which would cause less aggravation to certain posters.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I predict he'll sign with the Cubs. Book it.Buster O just predicted this.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I had forgotten about the cubs.....that is also a logical landing spot for him.
