Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Well, I won't. Seriously, why? It was a joke... I took a look and "Shop" is in the far right position now... So... I naturally went that direction. I'm not sure where it went.
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 "On January 14, 2014, Morgan announced that he had signed a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training with the Cleveland Indians.[29] In spring training, he earned a spot on the 25 man roster and started the 2014 season as the starting center fielder and lead-off batter." Hindsight is 20/20, but on January 14th, none of us actually thought we were going to break camp with Bartlett as an outfielder and no viable options in AAA and have Arcia, Willingham, and Hicks injuries in the first month. Sure but TR on Jan 14 had to be thinking about wat his CF options were, the GM at Cleveland sure was
S. Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I think it's been established that Morgan is a loud mouth with no filter... But... I don't recall him not giving it 200 percent on the field... Maybe he has... I don't recall... if that's the case... I'll take the clown. And the point still stands that in January there were better options than Nyjer Morgan that we could've got, but the FO settled on an even worse option of Bartlett. This isn't like Cleveland just got him off waivers and we could've had him instead of Fuld as a temporary fill in.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Perhaps Colabello could use this glove next game.. Might reduce his range a little, but we'd have to wait for the UZR sample size to grow a bit before knowing for sure.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 To be fair, it was a play that not every major leaguer would make every time. But he's not a gifted fielder, the play was not made, and I'm gonna gripe. And now in the top of the inning Cola gets robbed by good defense (other side of the field, for those into symmetry). It was a huge moment. I love Cola but... Not making that catch cost us and I've seen that catch made at local beer league softball games. He has to make that catch.

Find me all these posts of people in January r earlier clamoring about how much Nyjer Morgan would help the team though.

Paul Pleiss Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I dont think Morgan was ever a real consideration for the Twins who seem to pride themselves on the quality of individuals in the organization as much as the quality of their play. Bartlett. Jason Bartlett's roster spot changed the CF picture for the Twins. I'm sure that the Twins didnt know they'd be bringing Bartlett north in mid-January. That's pre-TwinsFest.
big dog Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Wow, the air in the game thread is more suitable for Beijing tonight. I blame Dick for the bottom of the third- he no sooner said "Nolasco has eight up, eight down" before the wheels fell off. Very glad to see Pinto hitting a rocket there.

From what I've read and witnessed... I'd take him. And if Escobar keeps looking like he can run and track... I'll lighten up on my CF concerns. Although... I'll probably shift to why haven't we seen Escobar in the OF more.

I don't think anyone here is paid millions of dollars to figure out which players are going to help, Terry Ryan is.
ashbury Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I've seen that catch made at local beer league softball games. You shake the baseball tree and 99 gloves fall out...
LaBombo Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 It was a huge moment. I love Cola but... Not making that catch cost us and I've seen that catch made at local beer league softball games. He has to make that catch. That's the hard part about rooting (me too, btw) for a guy who is probably a better story than he is a player. He had an amazing April, but he's on his way to becoming the Yan Gomes of corner OF and 1b. He needs to hit, because it sure looks like the glove just isn't there.

My theory and I actually think I'm right... Bartlett signed the minor league deal in November and I think that was when he made the club. I a also think its possible that OF options were not considered in December, January, February and March because Bartlett had a spot reserved. Just a theory... I could be wrong.
S. Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Like I said, hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure if we had signed Nyjer Morgan in January we would've had 30 threads about how unhappy people were with the signing and how bad it was for the clubhouse and how it was going to block playing time for Hicks or Arcia or a million other factors. This is in no way saying our current situation is good or better or even remotely acceptable.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Nolasco has the K-ball going. Ricky don't lose that number.
Paul Pleiss Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Escobar in the OF isn't an answer, and not seeing him there more so far this season is a result of having other, better options. Escobar over Herrmann, though, is a legitimate complaint, except that Esco was playing SS/3B for a few of those Herrmann starts too.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I miss Morneau's defense at first base..And I miss Butch Huskey's glove in the outfield...

Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I don't think anyone here is paid millions of dollars to figure out which players are going to help, Terry Ryan is. Terry Ryan could at least call me!!! I could have helped. I think he's a control freak and he isn't thinking outside the box. Calling me would alleviate both those problems.

Meh, your gripes probably wouldn't have been satisfying enough... sour gripes. And thanks for pointing out the symmetry! I hadn't caught that one. "Looks like we're gonna need a bigger glove."
LaBombo Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I loved that... Could watch it all day. Kelly's near-apology for letting him even play the field was what reminded me of it...

big dog Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I was just about to post that Nolasco looked pretty good. Then he gave up 6 bases on two swings. I'll just stop thinking for a while.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I wasn't disagreeing with you about Cola's play, in case it came out that way. But... You guys both agree that Jeff Goldblum's character in Independence Day... being the ex-husband of a key member of the Presidents inner circle was awfully convenient and the fact that Will Smith's stripper fiancée finding the 1st Lady after the crash suggest that they all lived in a very small world.
